FF miles with Avis?
Haven't rented a car with Avis in many months. Went to Avis site this morning to book a reservation and could see no way to enter a frequent flyer number anywhere. Has the ability to earn airline FF miles with Avis been eliminated or am I missing it? Thanks for the assist!

They keep moving it around and renaming it, plus now it's only available if you're logged in.
I just tried a test booking while logged in, and it's now earlier, on the Rental Options page, which includes Equipment/Services, then Protections/Coverages, then Frequent Travel Program For Miles/Points. That last section is what you're looking for. You have to type in what you think the name of the program is and it'll try to match it as you type; you have to spell it out (for example, American, not AA).
It used to be later in the reservation process.
I just repeated the same trial booking while not logged in. Got a slightly lower price that way, but the section for Frequent Travel Program is missing. The disappearing act for the FFP field was first brought up a few months ago as a Budget issue, and that's when I discovered that it works at Avis only if you're logged in. Fortunately, joining Avis Preferred and thus getting a login is free.

What airline FFP are you using? For FB e.g. they have a dedicated website http://www.avis-flyingblue.com/
Might be worth to check your FFP website for such a link.

Did you check whether it's in the old location (on the last page before finalizing the reservation, right next to the place where you specify arriving flight information)?
In case it's browsers, the only browser I tried was Firefox (that's the browser that I have remember all my website passwords, secured by a Master Password).

And that's the way it used to work in the Avis Prime free weekend coupon era; you didn't have to "opt out" of anything, you just wouldn't earn toward free weekend coupons on rentals where you earned with travel currency partners.
So do you really have to "opt out" of points at Avis to get that FFP field to appear? I don't remember "opting out", but then I definitely never "opted in" to points either. And I've dropped from Preferred Plus (fka Avis First) to just Preferred, in case that makes any difference.

No, the Avis points program is an opt-in program.
I suspect they have made it harder to get partner points/miles because it saves Avis money. When they did it during the Budget/Avis site redesigns, it was disappointing.
You can call to get it added. Remember, if you don't see the FF charge in the taxes section, it is likely you are on a non-qualifying rental (franchisee) or you don't have a linked partner account (because the box was missing or whatever).
The other alternative is if your preferred partner has a branded booking page, you will usually see the entry box on that version even if not logged on.
AA has two versions for ABG, one is here: https://www.aa.com/car?execution=e2s1
The other one that goes to carrental.com (ABG owned site) is at: https://www.aa.com/i18n/AAdvantage/e.../main.jsp#avis
Southwest: http://travel.southwest.com/specialo...ml?id=66467375
I am sure other partners have a similar non-login page with the option to add the partner with ease.

Is there a way for me to verify that miles will actually post?

There is unfortunately no FFP tax listed (surcharges & taxes are not detailed) when I check my reservation on avis.com. All i'm seeing is : "Frequent Flyer surcharges may be applied at time of rental."
When checking Tax details on carrental.com, it also appears that only "Local tax" is included.
They definitely seem not to want to make it simple to earn miles.
I guess that I'll just cancel and book elsewhere.

I came across this thread while fretting how to claim avios (BA) if I booked on the avis uk site rather than through avisba. The incentive was the avis uk site was 184 cheaper - for a 3 week SUV rental from SEA.
My experience today was that I logged into my preferred account and after being sent round the same loop to choose a car a couple of times I got into the booking process. I got almost to the end of the booking process and had about given up on being able to add BA number when there was a space to enter it after confirming my billing info. Will be pleased if the miles credit but am very happy about the 184 so won't fret too much if they don't.
I thought it was a bit odd that part of the confirmation page invited me to join Avis Preferred even though I was logged in to it at the time.
Not letting that burst my bubble.
