NY booths in the city are going unstaffed in September, so this is another location along with those in other states where you have no cash option (open tolling).

For the occasional visitor, you likely need to pay the daily rate if you need to drive such roads. For frequent renters, bring your own toll pass and try your best to make sure it gets signaled at the booths.

The last option would be to find an out of market car with no platepass or transponder box where you can pay via websites within five days at no surcharge when that is an option.
