The "check-in" workaround didn't work for me. But, there was a pop-up error message directing me to call OZ Reservations for seat selection on award flights booked with Star Alliance partners. I did so today for a February 2025 award flight from ICN to TPE booked on Aeroplan. Some seats are blocked but the agent assigned me to seat 1A without hesitation.
