I want to spend most of my time in the Cultural triangle area(Kandy,Anuradhapura,Polonnaruwa,Ella). I'm hoping to go from CMB straight to either Kandy or Anuradhapura (I arrive CMB at 11:50am). Taking advantage of the Hilton January sale and staying at the Hilton Colombo my last night.

We stayed at the Freedom Lodge... basically a family's home in Kandy for well under $20/nt a few years ago. Just got a taxi from CMB to Kandy after arriving about 8am. We based ourselves there for lots of trips around the country... they arranged a driver. We took Doxycycline for malaria.

How is the weather in Sri Lanka in late May?

Very seriously considering a visit in late May next year, likely to places on the south coast, including Galle. I know it's supposed to be during the rainy season. What exactly does that mean?

For those not following it, the 30-year civil war in Sri Lanka apparently ended earlier this year. The reconciliation process is supposedly underway.
