all of nightclubs are closed during Ramadan under authority order. no small convenience store selling alcoholic beverages anymore as it is prohibited.
in other months you can get it in bigger/supermarket, but I'm not sure in Ramadan, I think you won't be able to. (I may be wrong though, I don't drink so couldn't give you exact info). I'm not sure whether hotels provide any. Bali is different case altogether. as for drinking water in public, it's not a big deal here, moreover if you're easily identified as tourist. few stares, maybe. but it won't get you arrested. |

Many thanks for your insights. I might think about going to Bali then if I require beer for that time. But it also might be a good experience just not to drink for that one week I intend to stay in Indonesia. :)

I would be completely shocked if you could not get alcohol at your hotel. Room service at the worst.

Any recommendations or advice on watering holes (beer) during the evening? Would it even be possible during Ramadan to get a beer somewhere?
If you are interested in Jakarta nightlife I can recommend this website: http://www.jakarta100bars.com . Also includes information about venues with "extra services" if that's your thing. :D |

Some places do sell alcohol during Ramadan but rather secretly. They are pretty scared of hardline Islamic groups destroying their property. As far as I know alcohol is not banned by law during Ramadan, but this could've been changed recently (I try to avoid Jakarta during Ramadan). Don't expect big crowds though and most of the bars that still serve alcohol are located within hotels.

It just shouldn't be closed down at all :) If the extra services would be my thing I believe there are other places in the world where it would be much easier to have :) |
It can be trying to be in Jakarta during Ramadan. Everyone grumpy, sleep deprived, etc. After Idul Fitri, the traffic is better for 3-5 days, then back to it's normal hellish status.

I'm flying from Doha in J on QR958 to Jakarta and will look to connect onto a Malaysian airlines flight to Kuala Lumpur.
The flight in is scheduled to land at 07:40am so I am thinking of booking MH712 which departs at 9:55am, I'll only be flying with hand luggage. Any advice on connecting through Jakarta (I assume I don't need to clear immigration of anything like that) and does this seem to be a reasonable amount of time? |

Anyone got some new on the 'skytrain' that will connect the different terminals at CGK? It should be operational from T2-T3 from June and by August it should be fully operational but I can't find much information about the current state of operations.
And the main question is, where do I get on the train from T2? I have a short connection (T2-T3) coming up in August and want to avoid taking the transit bus or a taxi. |

When I arrived at T2 this week, all I saw is a lot of construction going on. My driver mentioned a 2020 completion date, but probably talking about connecting to Jakarta.
Probably he was talking about the Jakarta connection indeed. http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2...a-airport.html |

I'm a bit of a pessimist when it comes to construction projects in Indonesia. I wouldn't book a tight (sub 2 hrs) connection, and count on this train.

I am late to the party here but I was in CGK and Bandung during Ramadan two years ago. Beer was readily available in the hotel - freely flowing in the Hyatt lounge in both cities. Sadly, the Bandung Hyatt is no longer part of the chain (amazing service). I didn't look in CGK, but there didn't seem to be any beer anywhere outside of the hotel in Bandung (did I look in the wrong places?). Also, while not a long time resident, the folks seemed very accommodating for foreigners looking for food/drink during the day.
Cheers

I am planning a trip for end of May 2018 (quite early, but as a German I need my plans!). It will be around Ramadan and I intend to go to Bandung on Thursday.
Which means from Sunday evening to Thursday I would like to spend visiting Jakarta to get a feel for the capital before I explore the country (a little bit) for the first time. Any recommendations or advice on watering holes (beer) during the evening? Would it even be possible during Ramadan to get a beer somewhere? I have read here and elsewhere that small convenience stores are not allowed to sell beer (anymore) but I am a little bite afraid of no beer at all during that time (zeh German!). Also, for those people living for a longer time in Indonesia / Jakarta: would it be OK if I go out during the day and drink some water while exploring the sites (Monasir et. al.)? I know that as a traveler I would not fall under the rules of fasting, but would like to check the local customs with you knowledgeable folks. Many thanks in advance and safe travel or stay! |
