To be honest at CGK that's going to be cutting it fine, given AirAsia check-in closes 45 minutes ahead of departure. There's a regular shuttle bus that goes between the terminals, otherwise you can be sure a taxi driver will be happy to take you the km or so between the two for a hideously overpriced amount.

I can't recall getting out of Immigration and Customs at CGK in less than 30 minutes, and if another flight gets in before you it can stretch out closer to an hour (especially if a queue builds up at the Visa on Arrival desk in the event you need one). So you probably will make it for your flight to Yogya, but it has the potential to be tighter than desired.

Well, to be frank, and not condoning this, you can take "Jalan Tol" at immigration. you'll be thru in a flash.

So, I will be flying into CGK on SQ at 9:45am and flying out on CX at 2:50pm on 2 separate tickets. So, any recommendations on what I should do for that 5 hours? I am flying in J so lounge access is not a problem. But, I am sure that the lounge gets boring after a few hours. So, any ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!!!!!

There's the Taman Sari Royal Heritage Spa at the end of Terminal 2F, outside of security where you could easily while away a couple of hours if so inclined. The rates are surprisingly reasonable for an airport location as well. Apart from that and the aforementioned golfing option there's not a lot of other options unfortunately - by the time you got anywhere worthwhile it'd be time to turn straight back around again given the traffic in Jakarta.

TG to Garuda Connection Time

I'll be arriving from BKK on TG connecting to a Garuda flight to YOG. How much time do we need to connect? We will have to claim luggage from TG and recheck for the Garuda (I assume TG and Garuda do not interline - and we are on separate PNRs). Flying Y on both flights. Also, what's "Jalan tol" (I think I might have some idea from the time I spent in Indonesia in the early 90's)? THANKS!

Jalan means walking so I might guess that it means walking time but I have been wrong and completely lost when I am in Indonesia so hopefully someone else will know here.

That's the tollway, it's how you get to/from airport from the city

I imagine oontiveros was alluding to the fact it's possible to make a 'donation' to allow priority processing through the Diplomatic/Flight Crew lane. Lets hope oontiveros is able to provide an indication of pricing if so (but if you have checked baggage then getting through Immigration quickly will probably just leave you with a longer wait at the carousel for your bags to show up anyway :D).

I think 50,000rp would be more appropriate for a bulé. :D

hehe...10k will get you a "bugil" or bule gila (crazy foreigner) rebuff...

an inflationary 100k is usually a good bet (especially in one of asia's strongest growing economies). yes you will probably get thru the diplo queue before your bags but there's the cheap (but limited) duty free shopping to do (if you drink booze, is cheaper than in town), hit the atm, hold your breath for the loo and have a seat meanwhile.

No freaking way it's 100k now..OMG.what has the world come to?? I only pay my drive 45k rp/day. That guy just sits there, and when I go through regular line and do not donate, they start asking me plenty of jerk questions :D

You don't live here in Jakarta? No
Where do you live? US
Why do you live in US? Because I went to school there and I have a job now
Do you like the US? Yes
Why do you come to Jakarta? To visit my relatives?
If you like US why do you come back to Jakarta? Err to visit my relatives??
How long have you been in US? 14 years
Ahh that's very long, I am sure you are going to be US citizen? I am not sure
Oh come on, you can tell me? I said I am not sure

(I stare him down) He lets me go

Excessive I think. I flew into CGK 8 years ago with no return ticket (against visa rules) and multiple recent 'visa run' stamps in my passport.

They pulled me out to ask for a bribe, I was thinking 'oh no, how much, 1 juta?', but said nothing. They asked for either 100 or 150,000 rupiah (I forget which). I was very pleased :D

Of course 8 years is a while, but prices have not yet doubled. Although I think Indonesia might be realising that crazy bule routinely pay much higher prices for such services. I wonder how much they get for 'express immigration' for tourists flying off to spend the night in Amankila at $1200/night.

My wife has two passports. (Shh, don't tell.)

I was worried last time we fle in, because my daughter and I (British passports) had passports full of stamps, and her Indonesian passport was completely empty. I thought they would notice the discrepancy, but they obviously weren't paying attention and there was no problem. No uang rokok for them. :D
