The wording from the foreign ministry describes a transit "area", lounge, and hotel as the only permitted locations but I wasn't sure if that included the entire airside terminal/gates etc?
The transit hotel, small food court, and lounges are in the same area. |
Luckily its not an issue anymore as I changed our TPE-BKK from Thai Airways to EVA but we were going to have to transfer to terminal 1 where Thai is located I understand? I was not sure if that was going to be possible under the transit rules without special permission/escort?? How would that work?

I've never used it, but there's an airside tram between the terminals.
At any rate, read this airport guide: http://www.taoyuan-airport.com/uploa...324/map_en.pdf And this: http://www.taoyuan-airport.com/engli...sit-procedures Transfer from Terminal 1 (Zone A or B) to Terminal 2 (Zone C or D) After disembarking in Zone A or B, go to the Skytrain platform beside the transfer lounge. → Ride the Skytrain to Terminal 2. → Go to the transfer counter in Zone C or D of Terminal 2 to check in for your onward flight. → Go through security control on the 2nd floor (2F), then proceed to your boarding gate on the 3rd floor (3F) |
Sorry to dig up an old thread, but my question is directly relevant to the title.
I have a connection coming up in early Jan, arriving from HKG on CX and connecting to YVR on CI, on separate tickets. I have about 2:30 between flights. From what I understand, I'll have to go from T1 to T2 where CI's YVR flights depart from. Does this mean the CI transfer desk won't be willing to pull my bag and and transfer it directly? I know CX won't be willing to tag through to YVR on a seperate ticket so that's out of the question. I'm a bit concerned any delays at HKG would screw me over, especially with the long immigration queues if I have to go landside. |

Why not just fly CI HKG TPE and end the problem once and for all.
CX will only tag to the end of their flights. If you don't have anything constructive to say, save it. |
I have an almost 2.5 hour layover in February, transiting from BR flight (HKG-TPE codeshare with Hong Kong Air) to UA flight, TPE-SFO, flying in J both flights.
Am a *A Gold and have Priority Pass membership. So what are the best lounges I can access while making this connection? Priority Pass lists 5 lounges for TPE, on both Terminals 1 and 2, four of them Plaza Premium and one More Premium. I imagine there are BR and UA lounges too? |

In Terminal 2 there's several TPE EVA Lounges for Silver members (The Club), Gold members (The Star), Business/First class ticket holders (The Infinity), and Diamond members (The Garden). Your lounge pass will tell you which one you have access to. Each one gets slightly better with the better status. All of them have showers which is nice. I was able to get into the The Star lounge with UA Premier Gold status (thanks to AA platinum status match) a few years ago. I vaguely remember them being concerned about whether I was accruing EVA miles vs UA miles, which seemed silly (I was accruing EVA miles, but only reached Silver). I guess this is all moot since you'll get into The Infinity lounge with your J ticket. I'm not sure if there's a UA lounge at TPE. I've only recently gotten Priority Pass through the Chase Sapphire Reserve card, so I don't know what those lounges are like at TPE yet, but I will be flying through TPE on Jan 2 and will check them out if I don't upgrade to J seat on BR by then. I have used one their lounges in HKG and it's pretty decent. It doesn't compare to the CX First Class lounges at HKG though :) I found this which might be helpful: https://loungereview.com/lounges/air...E/operator/BR/ |
The Eva lounges are all OK to pretty good; not fantastic. There is no UA lounge, but you could also use Singapore's lounge: also OK.

If you care about food, BR's food is more Chinese/Taiwanese. SQ's is a little more international. BR has more variety.
Decor-wise, I like the SQ one more since it is brighter. Location-wise, it does not make a difference. SQ's is a little harder to find and takes a few more steps. Size does not matter but that means more shower rooms at BR's. BR has longer hours but both are open prior to UA 872 departure. |
How do those BR and SQ lounges compare to Plaza Premium or More Premium lounges for food?
I don't expect to use the showers. |
International Flight arrived 40 minutes with only 15 minutes till departure time.
BR didn't even have an escort or sign for the connection to HKG. Had to run everywhere. |
There is a shower in the transfer lounge before you pass security. You can shower there before you go up to your connecting gate. Should have plenty of time.

Piggybacking here...I'm finishing a run today coming into NRT. Repositioning on Cathay Pacific to TPE and then an award flight on China Air Business to LAX.
Currently on the flight to NRT and checked into my China Air flight and at the end was notified that I'm not able to get a printed or mobile boarding pass and have to go to the check-in counter. I'm familiar with the transiting process in Tokyo and know that I need a boarding pass to continue through the checkpoint. W/o a boarding pass, will I be able to proceed through the transit process or will I have to 'exit the airport'? Is anyone familiar with the process that they can shed some light for me and set my expectation here. Cheers! |
