TPE overnight layover - options?
 

To catch an ex-TPE I fare, I may be taking the last CX flight HKG-TPE on 16th (23.55 arrival), followed by first flight TPE-HKG on 17th (06.15 departure).

Have done this before and booked a hotel near the airport, but wonder if there are any in-terminal options to consider.

There is the Evergreen Transit Hotel (run by EVA) for around $80-90 per night (NT$2800). I never stayed there because I have a house 25 minutes from the airport but it seems to have a decent reputation.

is it connected to the airport or requires a shuttle ? If not, any hotel that is literally connected to the airport by walk ?

Evergreen Transit Hotel only open the passenger holding CI or BR ticket.

I've done a TPE turnaround twice, once with a 3.5hr layover and the other 1.5 hr. On the first one, there was simply too much time (they cancelled my outbound flight so I ended up with an earlier one) that I even took the train and checked out T2.

My experience is that the inbound flight is often early, and you ususally have more than enough time to even "visit" Taipei. I figured why not and got 2 extra stamps on my passport. I put "In Transit" on the landing form and no question was ever asked. :D

Could you do a turnaround instead and save on the cost of a hotel room? If you want to be absolutely safe, take the same plane on both ways (e.g. CX400/1, CX406/5, etc.). ^

Not possible. I need to catch the 6.15am flight from TPE.

Re taking the same plane, usually I try, but I once got hosed on that.. Flew in to TPE on a turnaround and changed my flight at gate to get on an earlier flight than I had booked (i..e switched to the plane I had just flown in on). Then the plane went technical (and then 2 more went tech) and I got stuck in TPE for ~4 hours, and missed my flight to LHR. They did get me on, and bump me to F for, the later flight to LHR.

Technically, you are doing the same plane turn. :p The 2355 arrival stays overnight and turns around as 0615 departure.

I wish I had a delay like that. ;)

what a great christmas surprise to find out novotel has opened a new hotel at TPE airport! i use to stay at HI Taoyuan and while its not that far (20 mins or so) it wasnt next to the airport...

OP: the 6am flight is actually great because its usually not too full... and gets you in HKG for a full days work!

on another note, last time I did a HKG-TPE-HKG run and this is how it turned out... in the past, I have always done the same plane turnaround thing so its usually around an hour wait... but after doing it for at least 8 times it gets a bit tedious so instead... last month I flew in at around 7:15pm a/c parked next to the 7:25pm departure... was in J so first to get off... literally ran out... and the gate agent asked me "are you in transit" I said "yes, to the 7:25pm flight" she said "you wont make it flight closing and we will not give you onward BP" I said "nevermind, I have printed my BP" (this is walking and talking) so I get to the gate it was B7 i think .. and they ripped my flimsy paper BP and give me a new one .. with a very nice seat change!! :p

So this experience tells me... assuming you have no luggage for same flight turnaround (why would you) Id say go for a tight connection, worst case scenario is that you get placed on the next flight (7:50 or 8:20pm in my case) however, having said that, if you have an onward HKG connection to elsewhere thats tight, I wouldnt risk it...

Actually, I am planning to stay at Novotel TPE in early January. Does anyone know whether there is a shuttle service between the airport and the hotel? I checked Novotel website, but it doesn't say how I can go to the hotel from the airport.

If anyone has stayed this hotel, please let me know.

Exit customs, turn right, there is a hotels counter that has all the hotel names listed, and they organize shuttle services to the various hotels. I'm pretty sure I see a sign for Novotel hotel too. Not sure if it's free or requires a fee.

A couple years ago I stayed at the Evergreen Transit Hotel
while overnight on a UA itinerary.

Yes, they told me at first it was only for other passengers,
and I was unable to make an advance reservation.

But in reality, on arrival in TPE, they had me wait 30 minutes,
then sold me the room once they determined it was not needed.

Very convenient, inside the terminal.
