Interesting, wonder if there are any workarounds with Airbnb when staying at an apartment? I wonder what other sites would be good to book local apartments at the Blue?

We are currently in an AirBnB apartment that we booked back in the states. This one will be expiring end of May, so we are looking to book another one from end of May to beginning of July. Haven't figured out a way to do it (yet)!

stan1162 Ive rented from Airbnb with the actual provider being Babel hotels suites and apartments in the past. They have many locations in Buenos Aires and they’re also available on booking.com. The unit was quite nice, newer building and I received cleaning daily. Since you’re looking for a place, perhaps you can take a look at them, their website certificate is outdated but there’s many other links to them and reviews as well if you do a Google search. Let me know how it works out if you take this route and explore.. curious if you could work out something with the blue. Best of luck!
update: since I’m currently in the US on Booking.com the Pay at the property no pre-payment rate comes up in USD, I don’t see a way of converting that to ARG. Since you’re currently in Argentina maybe that’s a way of working it out the Blue if it comes up in the local currency. |
Update number 2 , On Agoda, you can change the currency to ARG with no prepayment as well .. interesting

We are in BA, and took a "side trip" to Mar del Plata. I booked the hotel on booking.com. It was a "pay at the hotel", no deposit, no-prepayment. At check-out, the clerk, gives us the bill which was in pesos. We asked if we could pay in pesos ( instead of CC) and he said of-course. So we paid in pesos, we had got on Florida stree(t blue dollar). So it was basically 1/2 of what I was quoted/expecting from my booking.com ressie. So, yes, 100.00 $USD p/n, and we ended up paying about 50.00USD per night. It was a small independent hotel.
Now, part 2. We are heading to Iguazu Falls next week. Staying at Melia. I pre-booked on no-deposit, no-prepayment. It SAYS pay at the hotel, local ARG currency. We'll see! Its pricey, and we are bringing a wad of pesos. Fingers crossed, they let us pay in pesos!!! Would make it again, about 1/2 price!! Will post after we get back what happened. Your post made me do some research, and I found this article, which may help clarify the situation (in Spanish, sorry): https://www.primeraedicion.com.ar/no...-restaurantes/ |
Where does VAT / IVA fit in?

Looked at my Booking.com receipt.

But the bill in ARS had VAT / IVA added on at 21%, no? So if the room rate was 100 USD, you were billed 121 USD and paid about half that - is that right?
Thanks! I'll pay attention to my Melia booking for Iguazu Falls and report back with that breakdown. |
Prepaying your hotel with your foreign credit card is 99% of the time a bad idea. Unless you can get a prepaid rate that is too good to be true, you will probably save by paying your bill in Pesos after trading your dollars on the Blue Market.

Hi stan1162, could you tell us about the payment at Melia. Would be interesting if the high class hotels accept this type of payment. Also did you find a way for the AirBnb Bookings? or prefered at the end no reservation with online payment? Thanks a lot
AirBnb. Never found a way. However, I did make a contact thru one of my bookings who rents apartments all over BA. If/when we go back, I will see about booking with her directly and paying in cash. Ironically, she has an office in Natick Mass, not too far from where we are from! |

Sadly we can't double dip, can't have our cake and eat it :) |

Could you post the URL for her agency? If you are hesitant to do this, could you PM me? Thanks.

I'm looking to book the Park Hyatt on hyatt.com and it forces me to include a credit card to guarantee the reservation and prices the stay in USD. Does anyone know if I reserve on Hyatt's website am I locked into that rate and stuck paying with a credit card or can I pay in cash in pesos at the hotel?
