1000 points for delayed train (automatic?)

Was looking through my account and noticed a 1000 point "goodwill bonus" for an Acela F trip (an award trip even) which had a delay in February. I haven't seen any posts about this, but if this is a new benefit (maybe tied to status (Select Plus in my case)?) I approve.

I have had (unfortunately!) a few of these due to delays especially on the Acela. The last one was two weeks ago for 5000 points “Goodwill Adjustment - Delayed Train”. This was a two hour delay between Washington and Philly due to signal and switch issues. I think on the Acela these goodwill adjustments kick in if the train is delayed by at least 30-60mins.

I haven't ever received one, although I only had one really bad delay on the Acela last year that was due to engine trouble.

How soon after the delayed train did these show up for folks?

I had a three-hour delay on Acela NYP-WAS this Monday and only the standard points have posted ... is it worth calling in?

I got one on the Acela in April, and we were only 15 minutes late!

‘When I have received extra points due to delays I normally receive 1-3 days after the disrupted journey.

I got it 5 hours after arrival of the delayed train (30-45 min delay). Discounted Business fare on Acela.

To add a data point, I just got an email telling me they're giving me 1,000 points for a 45 minute delay on an Acela yesterday morning. BC Saver fare and I'm SE if it means anything to what they give you.

To answer my own question here, I never called in (too busy) and I never got any extra points, but I did get an entirely unexpected full refund of the ticket back to my credit card on June 5th (nine days later). The companion coupon I'd used was also restored to my account. The standard points I earned remain intact as well.

To say I'm happy with this service recovery is an understatement!

Indeed, good service recovery from Amtrak - I just wish airlines could be as proactive!

I have had full refunds on severe delays on Amtrak 3-4 hrs.

Had a 15 min delay Monday 29th July on the Acela and received last night 250 goodwill points last night.

I was not expecting anything but maybe due to all the issues on the NE Corridor Amtrak are feeling a bit sensitive.

I was on a train Sunday that was 2 1/2 hours late arriving at NYP. The trip involved backing up 6 miles to rescue a broken down train and pulling them about 100 miles. I got an email yesterday that they will send me a Transportation Voucher via email in 5-7 business days. Fare for two of us was about $110. I was just glad we weren’t on the one that broke down.

To update my situation, they sent me a voucher for $100 that expires in one year. I was ok with nothing, but pleased with their offer.

Also got 250 for a recent delay (1.5 hours). Maybe they've tightened up in general? Seems like they were giving thousands in the spring for 30-60 minute delays. Now at the end of the summer, it's less than a thousand.

That actually sounds quite a creative solution to get everyone going again, good on them. :tu:

I have noticed this, too. Used to be I'd get 250 for small delays and 1000 for big delays. Now I get 250 no matter how long. I'm guessing with the crazy delays this summer they've had to cut back. I had a 30 minute delay yesterday but I was in FC so thought maybe they'd give more, but just got the email and it's still 250.
