the last ~60 posts of the other thread are almost entirely discussions of worth and who values what how much and why etc..
AND the beginning of the thread as well. yes i did bring up the fact that losing a few people will not bother amex, and that was some interesting discussion, but the vast majority of the thread is people coming down in one of these categories, with the better posts giving detailed explanations why > 1. screw amex, this is a rip off 2. ive got one more year at $1000, so they better increase benefits 3. im really on the fence 4. im really on the fence, especially because i dont want to get stuck wanting to come back and having to pay a lot more 5. im happy with the current cost / benefit ratio (i would be in category 5 if i qualified for centurion card) I just do not see any real tangible benefits for me. But I am scared to opt out and have to pay big $$ to get back in.... all that is discussed in the other thread.. like g50's post. while the discussion of MR does not really apply if youre only going down to platinum, my post on the concierge would apply, since that is something that differs between platinum and centurion. but it sounds like you would not need the higher level. |
Worthless? No, it's not worthless....but the loss of SPG Plat makes it a product more and more like a Platinum card with the following distinctions for me:
-Insurance that I'm always a CO gold (in case I fly <50k) -A free amenity at properties over and above the Plat benefit (which is usually $50. or so) -Mandarian Oriental (not that I've ever even stayed at one, though nice to have) -Dedicated PTS and concierge (though both are really nothing too special, just a minor convinience) I am really trying to think of something else, but I cant come up with anything more that I get on black vs. plat. When I signed up CO gold plus *wood plat were the two main draws, and were worth the fee to me... with 50% if that benefit gone, and in reality the conceirge being no great shakes (trust me!)...it has made me wonder. However, I am banking (maybe wrongfully so) that AMEX will step up and offer some benefit that will make it worth it again soon. VS is not the answer...but maybe something else will be.... I already paid the fee (in December). I may just let it ride to see what happens in 2008...but I can assure you that if there are no significant changes, then I'm probably out. Forgive me if you've posted your rationale for wanting the card, but what is it about the Cent card that is most alluring and/ or valuable to you that would make you spend $7500. in the first year (and possibly more?) |
go read the other thread, im sorry but im not reposting my analysis another time.
considering this thread also discussed target market for centurion, i think this thread should be merged in its entirety with the centurion fee thread. |
