Close/Convert with negative point balance
Sorry in advance if this has been discussed and answered in other posts:
I got an offer to convert my old Blue card that has membership rewards. I have negative 85,000 rewards from due to a clawback of a bonus from a Platinum account. Will they make me pay for these if I convert? Thank you |

Closing has no problems and they don't ask you to pay up, I know that from personal experience (closed out a negative balance 2-3 years ago, no issues since then at all and good relationship with Amex continued).

I have read of some being charged in the past and $25 per 1,000 which is crazy.

AMEX can in fact do that. The real question is will they.

I have 10k MR points from Platinum spend. I just opened an AMEX BBP card and have a few spend. If I cancel the Platinum card, does the 10k MR points stay in my account?

If you owed someone $100, should you just close your account and just move on?? What a world....

Mr. high and mighty, nobody asked for your I’ll informed response. Amex stole 100,000 points from me. I was sent an offer in the mail, met the requirements and then afterwards they decided I should not have gotten the points and never told me why. Anyhow. You probably can pocket the sweet points and close the account since there is not much AmEx can do with you. But AmEx certainly can black-list you for future cards and bonuses. You may just miss another 100,000 point card, just like the Chase CSR. ;) Gain now and lose the future? |
