Using Avios on JAl
 

i am trying to book a flight from Boston to Tokyo on JAL. I was going to transfer Amex miles to BA or Asia Miles. AM is better redemption rate,even with Avios Amex promotion it seems but given uncertainty of how long it takes to transfer was thinking of going with a transfer to Avios.

any thoughts?

What class of service? How many MR points are needed in each program, and is there any difference in the cash component that each program charges?

Avios wants 220,000 Avios points for a round trip Boston-Tokyo flight whereas AsiaMiles wants 120,000 AsiaMiles for the same thing. Takes are slightly higher on avios

For what it's worth, if you were willing to connect -- or stop over -- in ORD or NYC in one direction, you could bring the number of Avios required for the trip down to just 180,000 BA Avios (129,000 MR points) by utilizing BA's multi-partner redemption chart:

I just recieved a 40k MR spend bonus on my biz plat. I am trying to decided if I want to use it with my 50% pay with points to get a $400 credit on AS and 20k points back, or if I should send to BA to get 56000 avios.

If I send to AS I won't get the 20k back until after this promo is over.

Any advice? Do we think this promo will be extended or will it return in the next 6 months?

I just got an email from Amex today about this promotion and see that it has been going on since July!

This is a no brainer for me as I've used Avios for intra-Asia flights on CX especially flights from China to/from HK, there is always J/F award seats.

Is there a way to transfer amex membership rewards points to a family members Avios account? Last day is today!

Only if the family member holds a Supplementary card on your American Express account, but if you create a BA Household Account it probably isn't necessary.
