United Clubs leave Priority Pass
Just received email. I guess there won't be different between regular Priority Pass and PP Select:
We regret to inform you that United Club lounges, one of our partners, have unfortunately chosen to no longer participate in the Priority Pass lounge access program, effective May 15th 2015. While this does mean that our Members will no longer have access to United Club’s 49 lounges (41 located in 26 airports in the US and 8 at international locations) we are pleased to advise that alternative lounges are immediately available at 17 of the 34 airports affected (10 in the US and 7 at international airports) meaning minimal disruption for Priority Pass Members traveling through these locations.

There are some major airports without PP access going forward including SFO.

Does this mean that Priority Pass can basically do away with the "Select" designation in the U.S.? It seems to me the lock out from the United lounges was the only reason they created the "Select" designation on the U.S. issued credit cards including AMEX U.S? After all this drama I hope at some point in the future that Centurion can unveil some new benefit that has a real "WOW" factor after the recent losses in benefits in various card markets.... or are those days where we could expect really exclusive elite status gone as we progress through the card's development and ongoing history?.

While UA Club really wasn't that fancy to visit, it's still a LOSS of benefits to AMEX, especially Canadian AMEX Plat... we lost CX MPC Gold, now PP, without any new benefits like Boingo (for USA?)
I visited the SEA UA Club (in Terminal A), it was meh... no real food or snack at all

Entirely predictable, and not in any way under American Express's control.
When DL merged with NW, Delta withdrew all of their lounges from Priority Pass.
When UA merged with CO, United restricted Priority Pass access by excluding memberships subsidized by USA-based card issuers. Priority Pass invented the Select memberships to reflect this designation. Now UA is withdrawing entirely.
When AA merged with US, American withdrew all of their lounges from Priority Pass.
The reality is that the three legacy carriers have little motivation to allow occasional flyers to use their lounges. Their lounge networks no longer have surplus capacity, and they can use access to encourage loyalty.

I can also imagine how full those lounges would be post May 15, 2015.
Sorry Amex, you have to do offer something to worth the annual fee charged for The Platinum card.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but PP/Centurion works for me. I have the KLM lounge at IAH which is far above the level of a UC, even with their improved food offerings. My most visited airport domestically last year was LGA, which has a Centurion lounge. I also use the crap out of PP when traveling internationally, since I don't have status with any of the alliances.
And I agree that they don't need PP/Lounge Club/etc. Between the normal access privileges, credit cards, one time passes, etc., the lounges are busy. The last time I was in a UC was IAH T-C south in December and the place was packed to the gills. I had to go to the 3rd floor to get a seat.
