Help! LOST / FOUND on AA flight / Admirals Club / the AA gates
Q: I left an item on my flight or at the airport. How do I contact Lost and Found?

Immediate gate area, on arriving aircraft or Admirals Club

AA Lost and Found is usually the place to contact. Unfortunately, AA Lost and Found are dysfunctional and don't answer their phones published to the public because "there are too many calls". Not at all what AA says, but here's the process:

If it's AA, "File a lost and found report if you lost an item on the plane, at a gate or in the Admirals Club. Once you file a report, you’ll get email or text updates on the status of your item. Lost items are kept for 30 days."

"File a lost and found report" (link)

If you fill out the form and hear nothing, try contacting AA for the desired airport. DFW: [email protected]; substitute the airport code for your airport. If you receive no response within three working days, your status or non-status service line, or try using the Twitter team @AmericanAir. See more here.

Public areas of the terminal: Contact the airport lost and found.

Each airport has its own method for processing lost and found requests. If you left an item at the airport please contact the Lost and Found office of the airport from or to which you were traveling. For your convenience, airport hours of operation are accessible from our Airport Information and Ticket Counter Hours page.

I called - I was told IF it was turned in - it would be at lost and found at DFW.
Called and Called and Called - no answer - email - no answer.

When I passed back through DFW I went to the actual lost and found (at the end of C i think) and gave them my story - the attendant asked me what did it look like.... "well it's an ipad in a factory ipad case" Silence. She then told me that had lots of them but would have to prove which one was mine. How could I do that??

She then asked if my background was unique - and - well - yes - yes it was. I proceeded to describe it to her as best a grown man could - she instantly replied - "oh, that's YOUR iPad - once sec" - she returned with my ipad safe and sound.

Re IPADS vs headphones, most pax keep their IPADS "protected" via their PIN#, so once the ipad is found, entering the correct PIN# would verify tat it is yours (assuming the ipad has some battery life left); headphones don't have PIN#s, so for these attaching an identifying name tag might be a good idea.

RDU Admirals Club to the rescue

I was outbound on Sunday RDU-DFW-SCL. When I arrived in Santiago realized I did not have my iPad. Used the "locate iPad" function and it showed up as being at RDU. Was able to confirm with the Admirals Club that they had it and someone from my office picked it up yesterday. Great service

Has this been updated or is there an updated way for contacting the airport airline directly via email? I just tried this for PHX and got an undeliverable message stating the email was invalid. I tried the following:

Unhappy Lost wallet on the plane

I was on a flight to Shanghai last week and must have left my wallet on the plane. Even if I noticed immediately after deplaning, I was denied reentry to the plane to look for it (this was before clearing immigration). I asked a FA at the jet bridge to search it for me but she didn't find it. The plane departed for DFW 2 hrs later, but the airport staff claimed that nothing was found.

I'm sure it's still on that plane (well, unless the cleaners took it without reporting). My best guess is that it slipped into a blind area while I was sleeping. The business class seat on 787 has plenty of space underneath, so it's almost impossible to see it during routine cleaning, unless they totally remove the seat pads. The only thing I can do is to file a lost n found report with AA, and replace all my IDs and credit cards. However, I'm wondering, if my guess is right, any chance I can get it back??

You know the flight # and with that information you can check the registration number on flightradar24, then you have two option.

1. Call Lost&Found for each airport that the aircraft flew

2. Look for the upcoming route, they may fly to ORD again and you can always buy a Business Class seat with miles, get to the plane and deplane before they close the door, as an AA EXP you can cancel the itinerary/flight without a fee. I never tried this (after boarding) but I made a cancellation 1 minute before closing the door a few months ago without any problem.

I don't think this is good advise at all. For starters booking a flight you have no intention of flying is a violation of the CoC. I seriously doubt that if you boarded, started pulling apart the seat and then with or without success tried to de-plane and cancel/refund AA would be at all happy with the situation.

OP, this sucks but if Lost and Found don't have it then either the cleaners or another pax does given the OP says last week, any number of people could have been in or around that seat by now.

I left mine in seat 1H of the 787 coming into Buenos Aires. I didn't realize it until I was in the taxi heading for Puerto Madero.

Luckily, the taxi driver didn't mind swinging it around and pulling back in. I didn't know what to do, so I went to the AA crew office and happened to run into the captain of my flight, who found the right person, who was able to radio over to so-and-so and get it brought to me. Thankfully I knew exactly where it was (in the water bottle holder area), and thankfully it hadn't yet gone missing.

I had already assumed it was lost and was thinking about how to replace all the many things (not to mention US $ cash since it was Argentina) that I had inside. I imagine if I were in your shoes I'd probably throw in the towel.

File the report and hope. Not really much more then that. They're not going to pull the seat apart searching for it. They're just going to log it if it gets found and turned in.

BTW Had great experience with QR and lost item recently. Left item on plane, didn't realize I had. Next day I went to airport (DOHA) for connecting flight to US. They had item waiting for me at my seat.

As far as I know this plane has been to DFW, SCL, PEK and several other airports.
I've seen a passenger in 787 business cabin who spent literally 30 min trying to get his phone underneath his seat even with the help of FAs. As a side note, I have intentionally kept one of my credit cards active and no transactions so far, so I assume no one has accessed it and it should still be there.

Thankfully I had no dollars in it. Given then fact that I closed most cc's this entire wallet would be no value no matter who took it.
I usually don't carry cash but I found myself so lucky that I got 200 CNY in my pocket. Otherwise I would be hanging around penniless and praying for help at PVG.

I've lost 4 cellphones on these AA 787 and AA 321Ts in business. None have been found yet. Have them connected to find my iPhone and haven't been powered on yet.

Sad to say but once once it drops into those seats. They're gone forever.

I feel your pain. I left my wallet once on a domestic flight in the seat back, and discovered I lost it when I got to the parking lot. Fortunately I had kept a credit card in my pocket for inflight service, so was able to get out of the lot. I went back and filed a claim in baggage claim and they my wallet back the next day. Another trip to HNL I was not as lucky with my brand new Bose headphones. Even with the seat number, flight # etc, I never saw them again.

LOL not to pile on but really 4 phones?! After 1 or 2 you'd think that one would be a bit more cautious about where you put your phone!

Maybe it's time to wear a leash and attach phone to it.

Two related notes:
I was using a Tracfone pre-paid cell phone. I lost it on a Delta flight (10 years ago). I sent them an email and then tried to contact them again a few weeks later, their email essentially said "too late, we don't deal with lost items after 30 days" [To compound the injury, while the phone cost only $10, I had just added (under a special promo) $100 for a years service; I wanted to roll the $100 to a new phone, but since the value is ONLY stored on the phone (not in their central database), the $100 was LOST forever.
BROOKSTONE sells a device tracker (the size of a half dollar), Caesars Casino (Atlantic City) is giving these away FREE to selected players, when I get mine I'll test to see if it works as advertised--it should be nice to find lost (wallets, remote controls, cell phones etc.)
