Partner award redemption with AAdvantage miles are fixed price today. I'm pretty sure that they were back then, too. The difference between then and now seems to be greater difficult in finding premium-cabin partner award space on particularly desirable routes, along with the fact that redemption prices have gone up.
The trade off is better hardproduct in F vs in the past.

I hope they remain fixed and don't go dynamic like redemptions on AA metal. Availability, I understand the scarcity there. I think there are just a lot more people aware of award redemptions nowadays, and paying cash for first/biz too, so demand is going to outstrip supply till the next recession whenever that may be.
