We're flying to DFW. Since DFW is AA's megahub, we're not sure if it matters if we fly Monday or Tuesday, the result might be the same. Do you generally have less chances clearing to a megahub like DFW? Thanks for any feedback.

Bumping my own post again, are C fares usually very rate for long haul International flights from DFW? Would you have a better chance from another AA hub like MIA or JFK?

I think it really depends on the route and equipment. I’m not sure when the 77W comes online to BA, but you may want to look at Miami as the 77W gives you 52 seats versus 37 (I was on a DFW-EZE flight for late November and it was a 772) or fewer on a 787. JFK to EZE isn’t bad either as the MIA flights will likely get booked up as it is the South American hub. In general, I’ve noticed that my EF C alerts are going off T-1 day throughout the course of the summer.

I just moved my late November EZE flights from DFW to MIA this morning as the fare differential on J-F was pretty low and there was wide open space (though no C class) on the JFK / MIA routes when I was checking inventory.

Today DFW-CMH I’m #2 out of 36 for 1 0 seat.

There must be something going on in Columbus. Flight is zeroed out. I can get upgraded 3 days out to LAX but miss an upgrade to Ohio?

:D

EXP - 201K Loyalty points
OMA - CLT cleared 2 days prior, Monday flight
CLT - MIA was number 2, did not clear, Monday
MIA - CLT was number 1, did not clear, Wed
CLT - BUF cleared 1 day ahead, Wed
BUF - CLT cleared 2 days ahead, Friday
CLT - OMA cleared 2 days ahead, Friday
This was last week.
Generally this year, I have been clearing days ahead for most flights, helps to be based out of Omaha I guess and not DFW or some other hub.

CK - 375K LP

LAX - JFK (with +1) both cleared 5 days out
JFK - Milan (with +1) both cleared 5 days out (though confirmed seat disappeared mid-flight to JFK, was sorted but that's a story for another day)
Athens - JFK (with +1) both cleared 6 days out
JFK - LAX (with +1) both cleared 6 days out

July 21 LHR>PHL. I am gold. Friend EXP friend let me use a SWU, #1 on upgrade list. Cleared at boarding pass scan. 2D, and seat across the middle was empty. B787-9, nice ride in Flagship business.

Nice timing. How did the APD payment work?

Read card details out over phone when calling in to get the SWU applied.

PLAT - 65K LPs

Flights in the last two weeks, no Buy ups
DFW-PHL 10:22AM NO, 7 of 32 on the list, 1 cleared
PHL-DFW: 6:40AM YES, T-49hrs
DFW-DCA 5:15AM: NO, 3 of 9 on list, 0 cleared (Day after storms and delays and cancellations at DCA, so not surprising)
DCA-ILM 1:00PM - YES, T-40
ILM-BOS 3:00PM - YES, T-40
BOS-DFW 6:15AM: YES, T-40

EXP - a bit over 200k LPs

7/31 LAX-BOS on 321T. Cabin look mostly empty day before when I booked. Almost immediately upgraded with a +1. Upgrade list was 1 person for F, 1 person for J. No one cleared.

8/1: BOS-PHL 321: cleared soon after booking 2 days before departure for me +1 companion.

8/1 DFW to SFO (AA1742) A321: EXP, re-qualified with 207k LP. I was 4 of 30 and nobody cleared. Unsurprising when AA was selling upgrades for around $150 up until T-48.

ryanbriar Aug 6, 2022 10:34 am

BOS-JFK 8/3 #2249 (321T): Cleared at the EP window. Was wide open until 24 hours out. Two on the list with one clearing at the gate.

JFK-BOS 8/6 also #2249 (321T): Cleared at the EP window. Eight on the list with two clearing at the gate.

Related - it looks like the 321T is fully replaced by the 175’s at some point between 8/11 and 8/19 until ~November :td:

DFW to CMH and CMH to DFW earlier in the week #4 and #1 on list respectively and did not clear. AA sold every seat via the app beforehand.

The offers seem to be getting a bit more aggressive. Booked a ORD-BOS ticket earlier today where the fare differential was $300+. Immediately after booking was offered the buy up of $118, which I took. Was J5 on a 738 with limited MCE available two weeks out.

Made EXP late last year. Domestic upgrade percentage has been about 90%. Most of the failures were due to very late bookings where F was already full, or where I forgot to check the equipment and found myself on a 319. But I’m based out of ATL/SDF so not fighting 50,000 EXP/CK at a hub.

I applied two SWUs to a MIA/TLV/JFK trip and both cleared: the first about three hours out, the second about five minutes before group 1 boarding. Three of six cleared on that one, presumably the three unlucky pax never made it through TLV’s monstrous queues in time, as J was booked two weeks out and I fully expected to be seated in Y.
