AA inflight tracker

Pardon my apparent ignorance of AA's products....however.....I'm surprised to see that this (image attached) is what AA considers a live flight tracker. This obviously applies to the aircraft without the seatback IFE units, which (for me) is most of them.

Is this the best they can do? Is there another flight tracker somewhere on their website or app that give a more detailed view and feature assortment (like most of the rest of the competition)?

This seems to be the airline equivalent of two tin cans and a string....and if that's all they have, it's pretty pathetic.

I agree with you. Although I just assumed my phone/tablet was not loading the map for some reason. I wonder if anyone can see an underlying map or if that's it.

My dude, definitely use FlightRadar24 if you want any semblance of real flight tracking :) Way better than AA's garbage technology

FR24 doesn't show filed route, though. Flightaware does.

Problem: neither are accessible inflight if you're not connected to paid WiFi.

Well take comforting in knowing the plane is still airborne.

exactly. I'm not going to pay $20 for a 2-hour flight pass to get something that the airline should be providing already

Can you not access the flight tracker on AA's website inflight without paying?

the image I provided was from aa.com

Your image is obviously from an international flight
...mine are all domestic. Not sure if that matters but all I get is the 2 cans and a string version.

Agreed. Great to use both of these. And good point about WiFi.

Also sidetone: it has been known that the AA app will show "on time" status even for cancelled flights in their app/tracker. Pretty pathetic. There is even data on FR24 that's not accurate.

That's exactly what it is. The underlying map is being loaded from openstreetmap.org (e.g. https://b.tile.openstreetmap.org/7/34/48.png ) but the free wifi doesn't allow that domain to be loaded so it's not being shown.

Why don't they whitelist that domain?

That would take a whole new set of vaccum tubes, punch cards and 5 and a quarter inch floppies.

given the vast and I mean VAST operational issues I've encountered with AA.this is just the tip of the iceberg. They are simply hopeless.

Correction, 8-inch floppies!

Just checked, and ebay has both 8-inch floppies and 8-inch disk drives available...

Both AS and UA have been using FlightAware for their fight tracker, and my last few flights on both I’ve been able to track my flight on their respective airline app or website that goes to a nested Flightaware screen with almost real time position, altitude, and speed updates. No Wi-Fi purchase necessary either.

Probably too much to ask of AA though.
