SFO - Kenya on AA

Looking to go SFO to Kenya on AA, seeing 40k one way online but can't book. I see Etihad and Qatar online - but not able to book. Do I need to call in?

I’d heartily recommend reading the Wikipost at the top of the page of https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/amer...ssistance.html for some condensed useful, shared information and experience. Also

Booking AA Award travel on Etihad / EY (master thread July 2017 onwards)

https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/amer...aster-thd.html

Airlines that can be booked for award travel on aa.com

oneworld alliance airline partners
  • AA - American Airlines
  • BA - British Airways (awards incur significant YQ surcharge)
  • AY - Finnair
  • IB - Iberia
  • QF - Qantas
  • QR - Qatar Airways
  • RJ - Royal Jordanian Airlines
  • S7 - S7 Airlines
  • UL - Sri Lankan Airlines
other airline partners
  • AS - Alaska Airlines
  • 9K - Cape Air (but only certain cities)
  • TN - Air Tahiti Nui
  • EY - Etihad
  • HA - Hawaiian Airlines

All others must be requested by telephone

Of course, there’s BA to NBO, but that requires payment of their ridiculous “carrier imposed surcharge”.

Good luck. And after 1/1/2020, AT / Royal Air Maroc via CMN may be possible as well.
