American can’t find one flight attendant at CLT?

Waiting on flight 1852 CLT to SJU. Delayed because they are missing one flight attendant. Gate agents have no idea when the flight attendant will arrive. Seems hard to believe at a major hub like CLT American can’t find one flight attendant to staff the flight. Most airlines keep airport standby flight attendants.

Just pushed back the next update to 11:00. They still have no idea where to find 1 flight attendant in one of their largest hubs!

AA does keep reserves at each hub. Did you ask the agent if they had asked operations to assign one?

I do admit the end of the month/start of the new month may have complicated the situation.

Of course there are reserves, but they may have been assigned to other delayed flights already. This means calling in FA's who are on standby, but not at the airport. Can take a while.

Massive weather disruptions around the country have caused a lot of delays and associated crew time issues.

Are the FA involved in the current union conflicts as well or is it just the mechanics?
If so, is it plausible that the flight attendant was there, (or A flight attendant was there) but took their time in getting to their assigned duty as a subtle job action by the union, slowing things down and delaying flights, passengers etc..

The airline got clobbered the last few days due to severe weather up and down the east coast and central part of the country. my fiance (AA Pilot) has been reassigned a few times, as they triage flights. My airline has also been impacted.

Hope they get your flight sorted soon, and safe travels.

On many flights to foreign, non-English destinations, the airlines have a language specialist FA onboard. Could it be they need a Spanish speaker?

Gate agents don't talk directly to crew schedulers. It isn't that crew scheduling can't find a crew member, it is that the gate agent doesn't have detailed information on how the position is being recrewed.

I'm sure the agent hadn't thought of that...

That will do a lot for the GA's career.

GA's don't have anything to do with this and Ops doesn't provide that kind of information in return. No need of it and it won't make this go any faster.

Same thing happened to us recently for a CLT-MIA flight. It was short one FA so it was delayed. The GA announced that the FA was in the airport and would be arriving at the gate shortly. 45 minutes later, no FA, so obviously a lie. CLT is big, but a FA somewhere in CLT could have crawled to the gate quicker than that. 15 minutes later, the GA makes the same announcement, FA is on the way. When the FA then actually did show up a few minutes later, she got a standing ovation, and the flight left soon afterward.

We finally pushed 1:15 late. Still not sure why it took so long to get one flight attendant. It was a scheduled turn for the flight attendants with a local crew. No weather issues.

This isn't a mystery. AA has three types of reserves: on-premises, short call, and long call. The on-premises reserves work on shifts, so by late morning it wouldn't be that unusual for the AM on-premises reserves to be assigned to other flights, and the PM would not have arrived yet. They do not keep dozens of people standing by at the airport. The most likely explanation is that you got a short call reserve FA. Short call has a 2 hour window to get to the airport, so if they found out about the missing FA at the FA check-in time, then a 2 hour call out window would result in about a 1:15 delay.
