Blocked seats and do they ever release?

Looking at nonstops SAN-CLT-SAN in the fall and it seems on every flight seat 5A (first row of MCE) is X'd out. This across many dates and every flight including flights with almost no bookings.

Are these seats blocked by AA and if so do they ever release closer to flight times? Just curious.

They are blocked by AA to accommodate PAX with disabilities, every flight has seats blocked for this purpose. They get unblocked shortly before flight time. They can also be manually unblocked, for concierge key members.
