Glad I wasn't there- I can only count to 10, well, actually 20 if I remove my shoes/socks.

Wouldn't it be easier and more efficient to just count empty seats? If you know how many seats there are on the aircraft (and hopefully the FAs do) just subtract the empties.

Those empty seats can't count themselves, can they?

I was once flying on AA64 (non-stop from JFK to ZRH--AA did have this service) a GA on board was trying to sort out seating and related issues, close to T-0 an announcement was made on the PA: "it is approaching t/o time, all ground personnel please leave the plane". We pushed back on time and started heading to the t/o runway, but returned to the gate--a passenger count issue, eventually it was all sorted out...so we actually took off 1 hour late. I guess arithmetic is not part of the training AA FA/GA receive.

I have to be careful, getting to 21 would result in the FAM arresting me

I can make it to 21 but have to take off more than my shoes & socks.

At least the FA didn't read off the manifest and make everyone answer "Present".

The FA just wanted to make sure they had boarded enough credit card applications before they left the gate...you know since so many people were asking about it during boarding

Does this fall into the "must comply with the FA instructions" mandate?

I'm very confused about the comments saying they would actively not help in this situation. 🤔

I suspect most are made in jest, but I suspect many, like me, sit down in the seat, buckle up, but on the headphones and just wander off into oblivion.
