Time for row renumbering?

With the MD80s on their way out, the only aircraft that dont start with row 1 are the 738s and the 763s, that start with row 3 and row 2 respectively.

at one point almost all narrowbodies started with row 3 but these are now a much smaller subset of the fleet.

why not renumber to row 1 for all?

Reminds me of a time early on in the merger when I got an upgrade on an AA plane. I got a row 3 seat and sat right in row 5 (thinking it was 3). I don't see why we can't start at 1!

While it might make Perfect (common) sense anywhere else on earth, :D THAT would mean AA IT would have to get involved!

I see this happen every so often. They board aiming for row 3 but end up in row 5.

This would cost time and effort due to placemarker and placard changes, it they could

1) start with the 7M8, given so few have been delivered, and

2) expand it to the -800s as they’re refitted under Project Oasis, aka MSTC / More Sardines Throughout Coach.

The 763s are headed to retirement soon enough I don’t see AA doing anything other than PM and needed repairs on them.

First Class problem too :D

My understanding was the goal is to have the first row of each cabin be the same across (most of) the fleet, so F is always rows 1-2 (where offered), J (or domestic F) always starts at row 3, Y always starts at row 10. That of course doesn't work with the 777-300s, but I believe Delta is aiming for a similarly consistent numbering scheme as well when they refurbed their narrowbodies (Y always starts at row 10)

For fun, I looked at the seat maps of some of the Indian and African LCCs, and their seat maps all start with row 1...so you're actually right...

Well ... every few flights someone sits in seat 5E ... and gets kicked out .. because there have a ticket for 32E. They seem to be genuinely confused so maybe if planes started at row 1, they could realize that the coach ticket for 32E is not a first class ticket in 5E.

Not on AA. The old 772 config had 16 F or 4 rows. Only in the last couple of years did they go to 2 rows of F. The 763 started with row 2, the 752 with row 1 etc despite having 2 cabins.

The LAA airbii started with row 1 as do the LUS birds too.

If you're talking about renumbering the 7M8 to start at row 1, it already does.

Broadly speaking, CX (and I think SQ) does a great job of standardizing not only row numbers but also seat letters. F always starts at row 1, J at row 11, W at row 30, and Y at row 39. A and K are always windows; C and H window-side aisles; D and G center aisles; and fill in the middles as needed. Even on KA narrowbodies they keep to ABC HJK instead of going ABC DEF like AA et al do.

This was funny.

Pilots sit in row 1. FA sit in row 2. Commoners start in row 3. Not sure what the problem is.

the commoners start in row 7 or 8 (on a 738). To avoid confusion, AA should start those seat numbers with a 1000, like how my cable identifies the HD channels.
