Yeah I'm sure that AA RM is sitting there thinking we could A) open some seats up since we are unlikely to sell them in the next 24 hours (as you see they have done for tomorrow ) which also allows us to move some miles off our books or B) hold seats open for non-revs to piss off FF while simultaneously not removing some liabilities from our books x1000

AA is far better off overbooking in high Y / J fare buckets and using OPUP's to avoid an oversold cabin than releasing the saver seats early.

Saver is what AAdvantage was originally conceived as when it was the first true FFP. Seats which the carrier can't or isn't likely to sell. It's hardly a "shadow", it's a reflection of an economy on screech.
AA is far better off overbooking in high Y / J fare buckets and using OPUP's to avoid an oversold cabin than releasing the saver seats early.

They may not do a ton of revenue F, but they can sell the heck out of corporate J and flexible Y on those routes. Roll 'em over and you have an extra 7-10 J/Y tix you can sell.
As someone with AA miles to use I don't like it either, but that's business...
