I sat next to a gentleman in J on the SFO JFK red eye last night who said he was AA’s number one flyer.
He he told me his name and gave me his card, but I haven’t been able to find anything online, even on FT. (though he inferred there was pieces written about him) He said Up in The Air was based on him and another guy. I would have just said to him "how nice" and put my earbuds in and closed my eyes. |

I think I met this guy on a UA flight LHR to IAH a few years ago. He had just flown in from IAH and was returning. We were waiting to board and he was an grumpy and fussy. He talked to anyone who would listen. He kept saying something like he was running out of time, had to get as many miles in. I got the impression he "lives" on planes and has no outside life. Yes, he was wearing pajamas!

So, he flies the equivalent of SFO-JFK and back, spending almost 12 hours on a plane every day, and still has time to work whatever job requires him to travel that much?
I call bull. |

OP, if you say that guy whose name you can't remember is the #1 flyer, I believe you. (That is, it may be true that he told you that). And he may actually be what he says. After all, what incentive does someone have to misrepresent the truth on a plane or on the internet?

I call BS too, if I were AA number 1 traveler lets say out of ATL, I would have no reason to tell anyone (excpet my wife) , what is the point, does it make you feel better about yourself.
When the old EXP tags had the million miles mark, a few times on the bus in LHR switching terminals, I have had other passengers ask me about them, I just tell them that it taken a very long time to get there and leave it at that |
I call BS as well. Just the opening remark about 5K miles per day would have been enough for me to tune out. I once did 330K butt in seat miles in one year and that was 42 trips, about two a month TATL from the West Coast and another five Trans Cons with some odds and ends worked in. I was home only about four to seven days a month. He would be doing 1.8 Million Miles per year - not believable. And like others have said, why haven’t we heard of this guy?!!

Forget having much time at home with your family, that's not something everyone is into...but flying that much, the flying itself would almost have to be your job, simply because you wouldn't have much time on the ground.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was the guy I bumped into almost 10yrs ago who was a 25MM.
When we were disembarking he seemed very keen to tell the younger women who weren't travelling with him all the airlines that he'd flown FC with lately. I was less impressed by his inability to handle a backpack correctly as he almost hit me in the face with it when putting it on. https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/amer...my-flight.html |

if it is who I think it is his story changed throughout the flight. I’m sure he flies a lot but the tales didn’t add up.

Sorry, but I’m AA’s number one flyer.
/at least that’s what I tell myself when I get my free drink and snack in coach. |
