B/E Aerospace Super Diamond Business Seat for 787-9 & A350

AA had arranged for Zodiac to build a modified "Concept D" Business Class seat to be used in the 787-8 and for the 777-223ER refit. Difficulties in supplying the seat meant some 787-8s were parked awaiting seats to go into service and delays in the 772 refit. AA ultimately terminated Zodiac's contract, and they will only supply another ~10 772s (and remaining 787-8s?) See:

B/E Aerospace also confirmed last night that it would be making seats for all three seating classes on Amercian (sic) Airlines’ new A350s.

David Thomas, the airline’s regional director for the UK/Ireland, Middle East and Africa, told the Belfast Telegraph it started working with B/E Aerospace after problems with former supplier Zodiac Aerospace. - May 3, 2016: Gary Leff, View from The Wing. Link.

JonNYC confirms the Super Diamond seat will debut on American Airlines Boeing 787-9 aircraft. Longboater confirms these will be used to refit the remaining ~23 772 aircraft not receiving the Zodiac "Concept D" seats. The Super Diamond seats are in use with Qatar Airways and Virgin Australia.

(Alternatives considered could have included the Zodiac Cirrus similar to the 77W or version used on the A330, Stelia Sogerma or Comet, and Recaro CL6710.)

...These new 787-9s and A350s with have new business class and premium economy for the first time, but American hasn’t announced the number of seats in each cabin.

Reader R. sends me an internal document revised in January, so while likely final there’s the possibility that changes have been made.

The Airbus A350 is expected to accommodate 318 passengers with 32 business class and 24 premium economy seats....

B/E Aerospace is now confirming that they are the seat supplier for all three classes of service on American’s Airbus A350s that will be entering the fleet. So they will be providing American with a new business seat!

It looks like they decided on a seat manufacturer, not a specific seat. It could be a version of the Super Diamond seat shown in the article, but that has not been announced.

Where does it say what seat will be on the A350? I don't see it in the article linked.

The super diamond seat looks pretty swanky. Pretty hard to beat the classic zodiac though. Good old tried and true.

Zodiac is a manufacturer-- not sure what seat you might think that refers to (Cirrus, I assume?)-- especially the "Good old tried and true" part.

The 77W, that's the one I call the classic. CX and AA. Which I guess is the cirrus.

Timely. Monday, May 9, marks the 4-year anniversary of AA's announcement to fit lie-flat seats to 777-200ERs - most of which we know still aren't done. Bravo, AA.

Why didn't AA just stick with the Cirrus seats for the 772 and 787? Those are great seats already.

Would it make a difference? If delays were the reason for the deterioration of the relationship, Zodiac itself is the problem, and all of their associated products would be out.

That's a nice looking seat, are there carriers using those now? Wondering if we can get a pre-release review via another carrier.
