Nowadays with US management and their operational focus they are doing maintenance while the planes sit all day. Actually investing quite a bit in spare parts inventory and training.

Getting back to the economics of 4 wide-bodies sitting there every day for several hours...

This is interesting that they are investing in inventory and training there. I wonder if given that they can't repatriate all the USD to the US, they are using the funds "stuck" there to do this. That would make good sense both in using the stuck cash, plus doing something useful with the planes.

Maybe it's partly a function of making the best of a bad situation re: currency repatriation, but I imagine it's also simply making the best of the demand situation - which is that there's just a lot more demand for overnight flights than redeye flights, particularly from business travelers paying high fares who can't afford to sit on a plane all day (though maybe with WiFi that changes a bit). So they can fly half-empty planes with low yields during the day, or they can fly more full planes with high yields at night and do maintenance/training during the day. (Of course it seems that over the years there has been enough demand in some markets for some daytime capacity, but the vast majority of flights are redeyes. You also see this on, say, Europe-South Africa).
