Guide: AA HKG / Hong Kong Int’l. Airport Connections, MCT, Arrival & Departure, etc.
All,
Traveling from BKK to HKG on CX and connecting to AA 138 to DFW. My CX flight is scheduled to arrive at 12:25pm and AA 138 departs at 1:30pm. Is 65 minutes enough for the transit or should I try to standby for the earlier CX flight out of BKK at 6:40am? |
MCT is 1:00
|
That should be enough time. If you can go standby, that would give you more of a cushion, although that means spending more time in the CX lounge.......... :)
I don't know how the business class lounge is. The first class lounge with the deep soaking tubs, was excellent when I went there. |
65 minutes is fine. Sometimes the lines at the transfer security checkpoints are long, but they move well.

I have done this transfer from BKK 6 times. 5 went off fine. Many times the 12:25 arrival ends up being about 12:10 or so, do to padded schedules. Last month the flight was going out about 25 minutes late, so Cathay walked me over to Thai and put me on their 8:am flight. Next month I'm on the 6:40 because of pricing. You should be ok.

Does CX allow standby? I've found standby to be something that is typically limited to USA-based airlines...

You have to ask a ticketing agent and it helps to be paid J or Emerald. My colleagues who have flown coach in the past reported they had troubles going standby when the cabin was still 7s across the board in Expert Flyer. The keg is don't try at the gate. Do it at the ticket counter or the club. |
MCT in Hong Kong (CX to AA)
Is this on one booking? If not I'd recommend calling each carrier to let them know about the connection. Especially if it's on one booking, CX will have someone at the top of the jet bridge when you arrive in HKG to guide you through connections, including cutting to the front of the security line. I've done this before with one-hour connections BA-CX and CX-BA and it works pretty well.

All,
Thanks for the information. Yes, this is all on one ticket and the CX flight is actually booked under the AA Codeshare flight number. Traveling light (just a rollaboard) so, if I am able to standby or have some other issue, all is good. Also sitting in 1st row of Y so should be off the plane fairly easily (plus I have mastered the "airport stride" as the other half refers to it). |
You should be fine. HKG is an efficient airport on most days.

Done BKK-HKG (CX) conecting to the HKG-DFW (AA) flight 4 times in past 6 months with same connect time. No issues even with a 20 min delay on one departing BKK flight.

Very easy transit this morning off of CX2700 to AA138. Sitting in the first row of economy helped big time. Our gate was in the 40's and flew out of 36. Minimal line at the W1 transfer point and was at the gate just before boarding started. I was probably #7or 8 onto the plane - good thing as we were packed to the rafters and overhead space was VERY tight.

Does AA participate in Hong Kong e-channel?
Does AA participate in Hong Kong e-channel now that they fly there?
