I have both US and AA CC - which to keep?
I have both the AA credit card (american platinum select world elite master card - $89 annual fee) and will be getting changed over to the aviator red from barclay, also with similar annual fee. Obviously there is no need to keep both of them if I have to pay an annual fee. If I am unable to get the fee waived (or an equivalent perk/miles) which should I keep? Keeping one of them is an obvious yes as the waived baggage fee more than pays for itself. I do not have any status with either airline, I don't fly for business.
Do either one of them have obvious perks that beats the other? |
It's probably too soon to say, since Barclays has not yet said whether the Red will be a World Elite or even a World MC. If it turns out to be a WE, I would then argue for it being the better choice:
The AA card is $95, not $89. The Red will have no Foreign Transaction Fee. |

Help me out - what is the advantage of the WE or world MC? |
Barclay just waived my annual fee this month for the old US card. You might be able to keep both for awhile.

Don't forget the 10% back in miles are stackable for each card so it's 20% off awards up to 20K max/year back with both cards in total. I'm keeping both!

It's a 10% maximum per AAdvantage account. There are already reports of those who have redeemed awards. It will be 5% (up to 5,000) from Barclays 5% (up to 5,000) from Citi, if you hold both cards. |
If you can login to your Barclays card, you can click on "Your Card Benefits" under AAdvantage Aviator to see if your card is World or World Elite, with a link on the benefits. My card gives 10,000 anniversary miles, so it's a no-brainer as the one to keep.

My card used to be 10K anniversary but is now 10%, though an FAQ on Barclay's website makes it clear the limit is 10K per Aadvantage acct regardless of how many credit cards you have (or who issued them). I suppose I'll stick with whichever card(s) waive or credit the fee.

I just experienced this first hand booking a 12.5K award. 10% back was posted as 625 miles form Barclays and 625 from Citibank MC. So not stackable. |
AMEX SPG gives you 1.25 miles, why keep either one.,

2. Barclaycard AA has Chip + Pin 3. AmEx SPG has a FTF of 3% 4. The 1.25 earning bonus assumes at least 20K points are transferred 5. Barclaycard AA currently has a bonus of 1.5x on everyday spend and 3x on US/AA spend through June 30, 2015. |
10K EQM per card is stackable, no. So why not both?

I don't see Citi getting any stingier with its retention offers and Barclays will have to be pretty aggressive since they aren't allowed to get new sign-ups for this card and seemingly have spent quite a bit on marketing to keep this product line alive. I'd cancel whichever doesn't give a good retention offer.
