DO note AA has instructed agents not to drop or add segments if doing so violates a married segment rule governing that award. See More award availability restricted by married segments / connections for further information.

(Otherwise) If an AA agent (erroneously) tries to charge you a change fee, refer the agent to the February 3, 2011, internal memo entitled "Dropping OWFA segments."

Save dropping last segment of Award ticket or not?

Summer travel all on AA flights.

Zrh to jfk arriving at 1:40 P.M
LGA to DFW , leaving at 5:50 P.M, arrival at 8:58 P.M
DFW to LAX, leaving at 10:05 P.M

NEXT day
LAX to YVR - which I want to drop this segment

ORIGINAL was :

ZRH to JFK
JFK to YVR

I didn't want to pay for the change for final destination from YVR to LAX so I re-ticketed for the LAX to YVR next day.

I would be charged for YVR to LAX destination change, correct?

If the award's destination change (from YVR to LAX) is accomplished merely by dropping the LAX-YVR segment, then there should be no charge.

Is this rule of dropping OWFA segments only for AA operated flts?

I'm trying to drop the first segment (which I have done before on AA metal) and the res agent and the tktng agent she spoke to said they never heard of this memo and it's an involuntary change and 150.00 pp change fee. The segment I want to drop is on CX. They couldn't find the memo even when I referenced everything.

Obviously this is a hang-up-and-call-back situation if they say they've "never heard of this," but, is country of origin changing by any chance? If so, doesn't apply. Might not for other reasons as well, can't say from no detail provided. Here's policy:

Are HKG and PVG considered the same country for dropping the first segment? Need to drop a PVG-HKG segment and can't call at this very moment so thought I would ask here so I'd know what to expect.

Not 100% sure but most likely NOT considered same country.

To report, the agent said the system initially wanted to charge me the $150 fee, but double checked and convinced a supervisor to agree to manually waive. The agent himself said this is definitely a case of "depends who you talk to."

And, another fantastic example of using unique and unpublished information gleaned from FT to one's advantage. @:-)

Seems a couple of people have done it without issue.

Thanks for the info! Didn't see any posts about it on the board since the change on the 22nd.

Could it affect post-3/22 bookings though?

Dropped JFK-LAX last week. No prob. Even ticket exchange.

Flyer has no AA status.
