Absolutely. In my experience, depending on the ticket (particularly with partner awards and/or tickets that have been reissued multiple times) sometimes you need to call in to get the miles redeposited and taxes refunded.

Yes. In fact, if you pay the TSA fee and do not take a flight (paid or award) for ANY reason, the TSA fee is refundable.

I cancelled online last week an International Web Special award, that cannot be modified but can be cancelled. Miles came back immediately, fee came back to cc 2-3 days later.
