No one knows. It hasn't been announced.

I'm sure it'll be a big deal with a thread on it once we do though. :)

I just spent $9 to keep 60k US miles alive, assuming I'd be able to combine them with my AA miles at some point... hopefully, within the next 18 months.

You can also do something like get a magazine subscription with your miles. Selection isn't great, but if there's something you like, it's an easy option.

My son's were getting close to expiring, so I got my wife a 6 month subscription to People.

"Some day, over the rainbow..." :D

Some day US / AA will make announcements about the forthcoming Frequent Flyer Program. Until that day, we remain ignorant and can only speculate.

My speculation: they will announced toward mid-2014, and the FFPs will merge 1 Jan 2015, so the earning of PRM / EQM, status and status perqs will be fairly smooth. The transition will be quite easy as long as the information on both accounts match (as it was when AA subsumed TW - my AAdvantage account assimilated my TW Aviators account seamlessly). As well:

AA/TW is probably a bad example here, as it was a purchase in pieces rather than a true merger. I would expect any "orphaned" DM accounts to just become AA accounts at some point, no action required. (Of course, the miles might still expire at some point, but they'd do so as AA miles.)

My HP account became a US account in that merger with no intervention on my part; I didn't even have a US account.

What it will actually look like - that might not go so smoothly with members; we have to different groups of FTers used to different programs, and we'll probably all take some hits - perhaps more USDM members as they will be flying in our lawn-chair stripe tailed aircraft, flying in a new alliance they did not choose and losing redemptions on airlines they are familiar with. On AA members if the program becomes more revenue-based for status determinations.

OK, fasten your seatbelts... ;)

I was wondering the timing when AAdvantage and DM get combined.
So, it hasn't happened yet and speculation is on the Jan 1, 2015?

In that case, I have to do something with AAdvantage soon. Thanks.

2015 at the earliest is speculation.

I suspect the new AA will make one big announcement: the features of the new AAdvantage program, timing of transfer of US/AA miles and status, maybe even a new award/upgrade mileage chart, handling of upgrades (stickers versus comp), etc. with one fell swoop (especially with the grief that sudden no-notice announcements have made among the elites). When? I would GUESS third or fourth quarter of this year (July - December) with the earlier date more likely.

I'd call it informed speculation based on how the programs work. Jan 1 is when people start accruing miles/segments/points for the next program year - Jan 1, 2015, elites start earning miles/segments/points for their 2016 program year status. So Jan 1 seems like a logical time to begin counting total combined miles/segments/points.

While management could certainly start a combined total at any time - next Monday for example - they'd have to capture miles/segments/points for the part of this year that's elapsed. Why go to that trouble when everyone is starting from scratch on Jan 1.

Jim
