I got the EXP match and am happy with AA so far. Summer is my slow time of year so I will likely not earn the 8 EVIPS for 30K but I would like to extend my EXP status. I am a traditional segment qualifier for 1K, having 121 *A segments last year. I think 55 segments is within reach as business will pick up in teh fall. If I get 55 Segments but < 55K miles/points, am I EXP?
So if you do plan on doing that many segments. I would advise doing a MR or a trip to get the extra miles. Maybe something like... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/18773364-post20.html. So for less than $1500 MEM-LAX-MEM & LAX-SIN-LAX for about 26k miles or more than enough to give you your first SWUs and will get you to 55k by the end of the year.

You have a good question here.
Last night I had a question concerning the additional 8 SWUs. Someone recommended that I e-mail AA, which I did immediately.
This morning I had a response confirming the extra 8 SWUs.
You should consider writing an e-mail to AA with your question. You might be pleasantly surprised.
To send an e-mail to AA, sign in to AA.com. Then click on "contact AA" then click on "AAdvantage" then click on "Status" which will quickly get you to the correct department that will give you an answer. Good luck.

Just sent the following email to AA. I will post again with the response.
I have received the status match to EXP based on my UA 1K status. I have flown 8 segments so far on AA and have enjoyed it so far. I received the email stating that I could earn EXP again for next year by completing 55,000 miles by the end of the year. If I complete 55 Segments but fly less than 55,000 miles, can I earn EXP based on segments?
Thanks

man. i don't know if it's because i'm based out of NYC, if it's just the routes i'm choosing or if UA is maybe getting a clue, but for the last almost 10 flights i've been actively trying to book on AA but fares have either consistently been 25-45% higher than UA and AA will only have one or two routings at super inconvenient times. i mean i'll book onto AA if it's like 50-100 more on a 500 ticket, but when it's 500-600 more on a 1300 dollar ticket it's really hard to justify buying the AA ticket.
maybe i'm just traveling to the wrong places... oof. my exp card feels unloved. bums me out too, was really looking forward to trying out AA. still haven't been able to find an AA itinerary that worked for me though. anyone else this is happening to?
edit: can anyone tell me in a nutshell where AA's competitive at in terms of routes? for example i know UA's good at asia and certain pockets of europe, where can i expect AA to be competitive? i think i've quickly learned asia isn't it.

In my case, 'loyalty' to UA is not driven primarly by the benefits of elite status. It is beacuse they are the best airline meeting my travel needs (including non-stops, number of destinations, prices, frequency).
Out of SFO, the situation is similar to yours. UA is dominant. AA (and others) are possibilites for some flights, but not nearly to the extent of UA.

When I started pricing AA, I was pleasantly surprised at the AA, JL and CX options that came up--mostly as codeshares which means full accrual on AA. Obviously, not upgradable at this point, but then again, neither is UA these days given the lack of R availability.
I have found, however, that AA itself rarely offers the best options. Kayak has been my saviour.

This specifically contradicts their earlier communications (see e.g. post #1847).

But #1847 says he got it in email that DEQM counts and #1843 also got it but on the phone.
The "Extending your status" email everyone got is written specifically excluding DEQM bonuses for the 55k but not including the 30k milestone in that language.

Anyone else get communication on this issue?
Confusing. I may have to move up 2 trips just to be sure.

AA doing free UA elite status matches [on 27-Apr-2012 ltd. to 1K/GS].
Has anyone who received the 30K for 8 SWU by August 31 achieved that yet? If so, how quickly do the SWU post to the account?

I might love EXP and those SWUs, but not at the proposed hit to my wallet and budget for flying AA. A bit of a twist, BA remains more competitive with its TA fares in Club, and with the the option of WT+ and Avios MFU.

Dear palefire,
That is correct. Please advise us as soon as you believe you have
crossed the 30,000 elite-qualifying miles or points threshold. We will
confirm and then issue your 8 complimentary one-way Systemwide Upgrades.
Due to system constraints, we are unable to have the EQMs process
automatically. Hence, the reason we'll need you to reach out to us.

AFAIK, DEQMs or any type of EQM bonus offers do not qualify for the 30K and 55K thresholds of earning the SWUs or Extending Your Status offers. So one has to earn 30K EQMs/EQPs and 55K EQMs/EQPs to achieve the beenfits of the status match offers.
