How much is that?

The normal SWP->SWP rate of 20/30/42.5 for Y/J/F

But, regardless, I do agree that AA should provide and explanation as to what carrier(s) can be used to get the 6k rate, for sure.

Exactly.. They can't post an award chart showing awards that are impossible to get.

If it becomes 6K it will be a really good use of miles. 10K for PER-AKL is also a great deal.

6k vs a 440 real fare in some cases
(even 10k miles would be a good use...)

I ended up buying the tickets at the 10k mile level. For the price those hops were going during the World Cup, I'll easily be able to buy a BOS-DFW-ANC MR, earn more EQMs, pay less, and get to both hike Alaska and watchsome World Cup matches. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

Slightly OT, for those going to the World Cup, JJ has a ton of availability in F from the US and back to Sao Paulo. Beats paying $2.5k or 60k for economy on AA.

Can't quite explain it, but the initial search reveals no sign of a 6K wholly-within Brazil economy award-- it's 10K, award code TP10P.

Interestingly, the wholly within Brazil award in business -does- comport with the award chart, 17K miles, award code UP17X5J-- which -is- less than 22.5K you'd get if you simply connect S.America2 -> S.America 2 on the chart

So, unless something else turns up-- and it 'aint looking that way-- the published AAward chart is in error, no such thing as a 6K wholly with Brazil award, it's 10K in economy and 17.5 in business.

And as far as I am aware there is no Business Class within Brazil - there may perhaps be GRU-GIG flights that are the continuation of international flights where Business class can be booked on the through flight XXX-GRU-GIG but I have never (since the demise of Varig) seen a domestic flight being offered stand alone in Business Class

I hear ya, just mentioning what award codes are shown in the reference material, I have no reason to question what you're saying, sounds reasonable, I'm sure you're right. It shows three classes of service, economy, business, first and then only has award code/amounts for economy and business.

Regardless, wholly within brazil in economy is 10K

True, but at least now I have the option to wait until the last minute to switch onto AA's 77W F without much problem (if Z inventory ever opens up), and fall back to travel on a premium cabin at almost the same price as an AA AAnytime award in Coach (which was the only other product available for the dates I was traveling to Brazil).

I'm finding business class roundtrip I fares on AA ex-MIA to secondary markets (REC, BSB, CNF) for ~$1600. It's only about $100 more than the economy fares being sold on the very same flights. It requires a minimum 10-day stay though. For someone with tickets to the semifinal in Belo Horizonte or the 3rd place match in Brasilia, these might be a good option. Plus, economy fares from these cities (especially CNF and BSB) to GIG/SDU and GRU/CGH can still be found for relatively cheap throughout the WC period, so these might work even for those going to Sao Paulo and Rio.

Just looked at the transaction description for the award redemption:
TP10P W/IN BR ECON OW TKT

So it looks like TP10P is indeed labeled as wholly within Brazil in the system, as you mention.

Since an intra-South America 2 Economy one-way award also costs 10K miles, I would be suspicious that somebody at AA might have screwed up the coding of the wholly-within-Brazil award, resulting in an overcharge. (Why have a wholly-within-Brazil Economy award if it costs the same as an intra-South America 2 award?) I strongly suggest that you use the online form at aa.com to send an inquiry to AAdvantage Customer Service about this. You might be entitled to a refund of some miles. And even if you're not, it would alert AA that there is an inaccuracy on the Partner award chart. (I'm also wondering whether there are any DOT advertising regulations that pertain to this situation.)
