Speculation: Will there be DEQM in 2013?

Just curious... has anyone heard anything about a 2013-14 DEQM promo like last year?

I didn't get to fly on DEQM flights early this year yet managed to cross my 100k miles a few weeks ago... I want to be ready to book whatever I can as soon as I can.

TR7_DFW Sep 3, 2012 9:09 pm

No.

I heard that it may or may not be offered. You can take that to the bank.

gemac Sep 3, 2012 9:47 pm

Oh, c'mon, fellas. OP seems like a pretty good guy. Even though we normally keep it secret, I think we can tell him.

In keeping with past practice, AA quietly announced the 2013 DEQM promo 6 months in advance. It will run Jan. 1 - Feb. 28, on all flights MKE-ORD and vice versa. Start booking and enjoy.

Without threads purely about speculation, 80% of the threads on FT would disappear.

Someone told me it was 70 percent.

To OP: Seriously.. If anyone had heard about a promo, it would have been announced here already. Even a rumor of a promo would have been announced here.

Um, it's happening. My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this GA who's going with the EXP who saw Suzanne Rubin at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.

(I'm lying about the above. To answer your question, no. I'm hoping right there with you.)

And without sarcasm, 80% of what's left would disappear. That leaves name calling, blaming bankruptcy and UA 1Ks as the other 80%

This is why AA is bankrupt.

Secret info has just been posted by aa (on a site so secret that its address is classified) that aa will offer a 3x EQM for all tickets purchased on February 29, 2100--so mark your calendars:D:D:D

Actually, AA has a DEQM all set to roll out - but they're waiting to see if the end of the Mayan calendar makes it moot .....

There will be DEQM offers in 2013. Unsure if AA will offer such, however. :p

chances are 50-50.....they will either have 2x's or not....

This is not even close to true. This implies that there is an even chance of having it or not. Without further information, it is impossible to make a prediction like this. Something with a binary choice (will or won't happen) doesn't have a 50-50 chance. Consider the lottery - either I will or won't win it....but the chance of winning is hardly 50-50 :)

Cheers.

I'd play with those odds. But I guess that I could no longer call the lottery 'a tax for those bad at math' (or an 'idiot tax')

The other view is that it's a valid part of a balanced portfolio- it's a low investment, very high risk investment with a very high payoff. It is possible to know the math and still play.

Cheers.

DEQM for 2013?

Based upon recent flights, I am seeing a lot more empty seats than previously. If the economy keeps sputtering, I'd bet on it. The cruise lines are starting to discount massively (balconies for under $50 a day) and I think the airlines will be following suit.

MiamiAirport Formerly NY George Sep 4, 2012 8:38 am

Possibly, as part of an exit from bankruptcy/rebranding there might be another month of DEQM freebies as a good will gesture to elites. Of course, if the bankruptcy leads into a USAir merger (which is looking more likely today than a few weeks back) then all bets are off. IIRC neither DL/NW or UA/CO did anything promotions when those airlines combined.

Really...? We must fly very different routes; I can't remember a flight that wasn't at or near full capacity this year.

Blumie Sep 4, 2012 8:40 am

Anyone remember when we would turn to FlyerTalk for real information?
Me neither.

There is no real evidence that any airline is seeing a sizable drop in load factors. Load factors remain near all time highs. I would tend to think that airlines (including) would park a/c in the desert before going on a DEQM binge like we saw in 2009.

No. OP asked about 2013, so I asked about 2014 (then the OP subsequently changed his post to 2013-2014). You could still ask about 2015, and I don't think anyone's asked about 2016 yet.

Up until a few weeks ago, I would have agreed with you, but this is just in the last few weeks. Also, you are in a hub, and I fly out of FLL. Had 6 empty F/C out of DFW-YVR a few days ago. About 25 (F/Y) empty on the FLL-DFW segment.

Me neither.

Each evening, from December to December,
Before you drift to sleep upon your cot,
Think back on all the tales that you remember
Of FlyerTalk.
Ask ev'ry person if he's heard the story,
And tell it strong and clear if he has not,
That once there was a fleeting wisp of knowledge
Called FlyerTalk.
Yes, FlyerTalk, my boy!
Where bad info wasn't posted until sundown,
By eight a.m. the bovine poop had flown...
Don't let it be forgot
That once there was a spot
For one brief shining moment that was known
As FlyerTalk.

But just perhaps... the "Speculation:" in the title means something, so those who prefer not to speculate or read speculative threads can move on without having to read them. Or is this what they mean by "reminiscence therapy"? ;)

Do you know something about 2016 :)? I am thinking about qualifying for the Olympics that year and plan on doing a lot of flying. Probably in the 100 Meters if anyone is wondering, though I may look at swimming.

How many business travelers take cruise ships to their destination?

Probably close to zero, but tens of thousands fly AA to get to a cruise ship each week.

You're right. I'm sorry. An AA insider actually told me that they'll be offering LAX-DFW DEQM in February and March 2013. Better load up on tickets now, they're gonna sell out when the news is made public!

Due to the Mayan calendar, I believe purchasing these tickets to be a waste of money.

Patterns & predictions for DEQM / double EQM in 2013 (consolidated)

I did a search and could not find anything though I am sure this has been discussed.

Are there any patterns from previous years for DEQM promotions?
Are DEQM promotions for AA metal only or all OW?

bmchris Apr 1, 2013 8:26 am

DEQM is common in my experience on new routes. You'll also see this if there is some snafu by AA, like the "work to rule" by the pilots at the end of last year. End of year is also a possibility.

It has been discussed. Many people have come to ask questions about "when will they offer DEQMs?" or "Is there some predictable pattern?" Since the answer is obviously no, that explains why those threads don't garner much activity, just as this one won't. And then someone will ask the same question again.

Cheers.
