Even better, a new SFO=HND flight and SJC=NRT moves to HND!

Capacity keeps building up on Nordics-Japan route with AY, SK, JL and now NH. I don't mind it at all.

JL is not adding capacity, they are moving the NRT flight to Haneda.. I think AY is also just moving one of their flights to Haneda and making it year round.

It is doubtful that SK has the long haul fleet to add Haneda to the existing Narita flight.

So really only ANA adding capacity

I meant carriers servicing Nordics-Japan in total with that list, not necessarily new capacity. But AY seems to be adding a little bit of new capacity on non-TYO destinations, CTS year-round and 2 more weekly flights to KIX.

When did CTS year round get announced? I have only seen two weekly for the winter season. But good for Finnair if they can make it work year round. Though two weekly is not much....

This is interesting. Timely, as I'm looking to book award travel within the next few weeks!

So this is now ANA, United, American, and Delta (edit, and JAL) shifting from NRT to HND all at the same time. Why?

Articles go on about "well HND is closer to central Tokyo so this will be more convenient" - yeah, of course, but that's always been the case. Why all of a sudden this change?

flyboygoon Nov 19, 2019 8:30 pm

The airspace is restricted compared to NRT because of the American military base nearby. Recently approval was granted to open up that airspace, so now more slots are available at HND.

Finally, ANA is starting flights to Istanbul and I'm very excited to try them for the first time.
I believe that the ANA schedule department would think about connections and not make the mistake that Chinese carriers did in IST, thinking only about O&D pax.

NH will be restricted from getting to close to Turkish airlines due to their joint venture with Lufthansa group

Philipp Morgenstern Nov 19, 2019 9:44 pm

Out of interest, out of the 4 new European routes that NH will fly to, which do you think will do the best and which one will do the worst.
1.Best
2.
3.
4.worst

This is obvious, I was talking about connections from HND to China, Southeastern Asia, Hawaii, and Oceania.
