Checking in someone else?

If I made a reservation for someone using my miles, can I check them in (and pay for their bags) or do they have to do it themselves? The PNR is in "my trips". I've been able to make changes to their trip, change seats, etc., but just wondering if I can actually go through the check-in process for them.

And to extrapolate on the reason for wanting to do this, I want to use a credit card that has an airline credit (Amex) - NOT BofA Visa which I know only gives a free checked bag for pax on my same PNR. If I can, then I will ask on the Amex forum if my airline credit will be good on pax with different names than me.

yep. Pretty much any airline will let you check in online for anyone if you have their name and PNR. And Amex doesnt care who youre paying incidental fees for.

Agree with all above, no issues with either, but the ticketed passenger will need to drop the bags off and show ID to do so, if that wasn't obvious.

Yes, they are checking in at a different airport than us, so I know they will have to drop the bags and get their boarding passes at their home airport. Just want to make sure their bags are pre-paid (taking the kids to Hawaii). On the way home we'll be checking in for the same flight so I don't anticipate any problems.

Really happy to hear from all of you that this is no big deal.
