Cancelling 2 Tickets That Were Booked Using a Companion Fare

I'm thinking of booking 2 tickets from Seattle to Hawaii during a VERY busy long weekend (Fri Feb 14 - Mon Feb 17th) using my companion voucher.

Cost is very pricey - around $1250 for the one fare, $99 for companion, $99 taxes.

Our plans are about 90% a go - but still a small chance we'd need to cancel. From what I understand, it's a MAIN CABIN fare and I can pay $125 to cancel and get a credit, but what happens to the companion ticket? Is it reinstated when you pay the $125 fee? Is the $99 companion fare also credited?

You are purchasing two tickets. One is just at a reduced fare due to the discount code. So you will pay $250 to get a credit. You will not get the companion code back.

This thread has a lot of useful information about how cancellations can be handled with a companion ticket and how to preserve the code if your plans change.

Two quick notes:
  • At $1,250, a fully-refundable Y ticket might not be much more, and that would allow you to cancel or change without penalties (but a cancel would still forfeit the companion code).
  • While canceling will cause you to lose the companion code, changing the ticket to a new flight will preserve it (albeit with change fees if not a refundable fare). You can change the entire itinerary (both origin and destination) if you like.
