Be prepared for a long flight however. This is the longest flight in AS' systems once winds kick in. 7+ hours flying even in F gets old.

Standard transcon service, nothing special. It’s a long haul but if the weather is decent the views out the window are great for about the last three hours of the trip.

Flew it Oct 29th.

Standard non- transcon breakfast, choice of hot egg/bacon dish or cold continental.

No snack basket offered.

Not impressed with this 7+ hr service, but guess I'm not surprised given lack of (Delta) competition...

Flight length doesn't seem to be a determining factor for trans con vs mid con service....ORD-ANC gets "mid con" service while DTW-PDX has full transcon service....no rhyme or reason.

This is just rediculous and screams of a lack of attention to common sense and details on someone’s part. Just plain dumb.

Yes there was.

Most of the time it was after 9:30 AM so a "lunch" menu too. There was just a schedule change on this route- not sure the switchover date however.

Not if you're a bean counter.

All airlines go through these swings in inflight service standards. When enough passengers complain about the service (especially in comparison to the perceived better service of a competing airline), management eventually responds with a new and improved inflight service. It really is improved, too. For a while. Then the bean counters take note of the extra cost in providing that service and management responds with essentially "OMG! We've got to trim some of those costs!". The cost cutting goes on for awhile and brings much enjoyment to management as the savings continue to add to the bottom line. Meanwhile a growing number of passengers take notice to the point where some of them actually take a moment to articulate their unhappiness in a missive to Customer Affairs. Then Customer Affairs contacts management with news of the surprisingly high and consistently negative feedback related to inflight service. Management grudgingly responds with a new and improved inflight service.

Eat. Digest. Evacuate. Repeat.

It's a vicious cycle.

Hang in there. Thing's will probably improve by the third quarter of next year.

Perhaps the "rhyme or reason" is based on number and quality of competitors on the route. Then, less service on a less competitive route makes a lot of sense. In fact, it's arguably rational in a highly competitive industry from a purely economic standpoint.

Quite true. Too bad the airline's advertising doesn't indicate what pride it takes in its inflight service except on the XXX to XXX route where it has a monopoly.

I agree wholeheartedly. Except the route in question (ORD-ANC) has two competitiors on it...AS and UA.
