Risks to converting SPG->VX->AS?

I guess today or tomorrow is the deadline to transfer SPG points to VX to subsequently transform them into AS miles...to get transfer bonus'd twice.

Anyone else doing this? I'm only reluctant because I hoard SPG points. But I am a bit light on the AS after a couple redemptions.

I have a lot more airline miles than hotel points. And hotel points tend to be easier to use even when they may not result in as high a value as some airline awards. So I am keeping my SPG points for diversification instead of transferring them for (speculative) use in the distant future.

Yes. I'm taking advantage of the situation because I'm low on Alaska points, high on hotel points, and want to book flights soon.

Thanks for the perspective. I have more airline points than I do hotel points...but I really don't use the hotel points much and, if I do, it'll be some other program's, not SPG's.

My main concern with AS is a CX deval...but since they've added JL, I have at least one option. And HU, I guess.

Just transfer 20500 SPG points to VX today, since I have 1500 VX miles, that will put me with 27k VX, and 35100 AS miles. Initially, I didn't want to do it, but 62.5% bonus is too good to pass up.

I value SPG at 2c/point and Alaska Miles at 1.8c/mile. So with the bonus I am getting 2.93c/mile! That's extra 46.25% of value! Tomorrow is the last day for transfer, so everyone has at least 1 day to think about it

Though you can often get 4-6c/SPG point. I would always prefer to have more SPG points than any airline miles.

That's true. But I am still sitting with 100k SPG points after the transfer, and I am willing to spare 20k SPG for AS. But everyone has different needs, I just hope AS wouldn't devalue their CX chart within this year because I am sitting with 175k AS miles after the transfer.

I did the transfer, but not for speculation - I do have a February redemption in mind.

I did the SPG->VX->AS transfer, now just hoping the CX J space I found for LAX-HKG-SYD holds out for the next few days.

Is there a risk of the miles taking too long to transfer from SPG to VX? I just sent some from SPG->VX and it says it may take a few days to show up in my new VX account...

It should take about one day.

You should be fine. As long as you do it while you are able to, the order should process. It's not like "you transfer Jan 6, the transfer agreement is gone Jan 7 so your points disappear into oblivion"
