I just did a search of 15 Oct - 31 of JNU/SEA for "U" space in Sabre. *NOT a single seat*. I also checked YVR-SEA for the same time period: ZERO.
JNU-ANC: ZERO SFO-LAX: ZERO SEA-EUG: ZERO (yes, I know all flights but 1 are a Dash 8, did this for litmus test) SFO-SAN: ZERO and finally, the all so lucrative-never-EVER get an upgrade: SIT-JNU: ZERO I do think its time that Alaska at least considers a 6 month extension of our GGUs, at least. 15OCT THU JNU/Z-8 SEA/PDT‡1 1AS 176 U0 JNUSEA N 600A 920A 73J S 0 DC /E 2AS 66 U0 JNUSEA 096 805P Are U and A seats tied somehow to the same inventory?
Seems like lots of international longhaul Business and first class seats are available from Alaska gateway cities, but I cannot seem to find any first class award seats on Alaska from Anchorage to Seattle (November-December) to connect with longhaul partner, only coach class… Thanks, DUT |

I don't believe there's a direct tie (other than loose tie in terms of overall cabin bookings) between them. Saw handful of single A inventory available on transcons the past week or so when planning a trip, while U was always 0. Couldn't ever pin down a rationale for A compared to cash F fares either. Saw some still selling I fares with 0 A, and some with Only F or P with an A for sale..

While nothing is certain, I believe AS will bring back U when pandemic emergency is over and provide us with full 1 year extension of the certs. Until then, we have to be patience.

I'm not saying this as a critique, but I really do think AS has pulled 100% of U space beyond T-24 for the time being. That's not to say you won't be auto-upgraded beyond T-24, but there is zero chance that U space will stick around long enough to use a GGU.

Yeah, I have questions about revenue management (I < K, A but no U, etc) but I don't even play someone who works in revenue management on TV. Either they know what they are doing, or they are needlessly angering some elites who believe (quite correctly) their GGUs are worthless + leaving money on the table. I'm in no position to judge beyond their overall business success.

Otherwise, telling elites to still expect a complimentary upgrade (based on space) at 48 72 and 120 hours is disingenuous, because they drastically changed it. |

My vote goes for AS' Rev Mgmt team often being incompetent since I have interviewed several of them... most couldn't even pass a simple math test
I do so love it when the FlyerTalk C Suite shows up though. Cheers. |
The dearth of U space has been discussed for a long time on this forum. I think we need to accept it.

Negative. Per my discussion with an AS rep..a few tiems now to validate consistency, 2020 Upgrade certs will expire as normal. With the extension of Elite status, new ones will be re-issued on Jan 1, expiring, Dec 31, 2021. So everything is being kept like normal.
From your understanding, is there a differentiation between those that will have an extended status in 2021 based on their 2019 earned EQM and those that earned their 2021 status organically in 2020? How about those that will qualify for 2022 Elite status with the January through April 2020 EQM rollover to January 2021? I will be starting January 2021 with 89K EQM. James |

GGUs expire at the end of the following year from when they are issued. Shouldn't that be 2022? Between January 12th & January 31st, 2020, I surpassed 50K AS+Partner EQM. The GGUs issued then are valid until December 31st, 2021. If GGUs issued in 2021 expire in 2021 then everything isn't being kept like normal.

I’ve stayed this elsewhere, but it would be nice if Alaska posted an update to the Elite benefits which reflect the current state of their operations. Specifically, minimal or no U space operationally means MVP/G/75k shouldn’t expect an upgrade prior to T-24 or gate control.

If you earned status in 2019, your certs for 2020 qualifying year would be issued in 2019, giving the illusions of a year. If you organically re qualify for 75k in 2020, then your certs are issued when ever you hit that threshold and are valid until Dec31st, 2021. If you are going off of status extension they will be issued Jan 1, 2021. As far as EQM for 2022 go, as currently announced, subject to change like always, only the first 4 months of 2020 count. As far as I've gather there is no difference between organic earned and status extension in 2021, short of the extra 50k miles. AS may change their mind, but I'm doubtful at this point.
If that is the case then there is a differentiation between organic & extended status and contrary to what you believe. James |
