PDX-SEA seems to be the route with the most plentiful U space these days--anyone ever burned a GGU on a single short flight like that?

Managed to find U space and confirmed an upgrade via GGU on Dec 10 SFO-BOS, flight 1352.

If you are willing to book well ahead - i have frequently used my GGU with my companion fare to LIH and KOA and OGG ex SJC when booked several months in advance. You need to be flexible....but have managed to use it every year....

Finally used up a GGU on a flight longer than 2 hours. Time to buy a lottery ticket.

As a data point (ok, 2 points), I recently booked an SFO/HNL and SFO/JFK for Jan and Feb 2023 and with not much difficulty, was able to find GGU availability on desirable flights. For a change, I won't have any expiring GGUs at the end of a year!

Just booked another HNL-PDX segment with U space in the first half of next year, one day away from what would have been ideal. It’s harder to come by than it was, and I don’t know how much longer I’ll sustain MVPG or better in this environment, but so far I’m not seeing a better alternative to what AS is offering. I could go back to flying HA to the west coast, and it may come to that, but I just don’t have the same level of trust in HA outside the interisland operation.

I have had some success from SAN to/from HNL, KOA, OGG. As a MVPG and then 75k, upgrades to F were relatively easy between SAN and Hawaii throughout the pandemic, first part of this year, streak ended last month. I have started booking GGU eligible fares, U inventory has become available on return dinner flights (less concerned about mornings) on 2 of 4 trips currently booked through first quarter of 2023, EF alert set for travel scheduled for early September 2023, not yet booked.

on Wed afternoon (9 Nov) there was talk of my having to be in Dayton next week, which would have meant going SEA-CVG/CMH on Wed morning and return Fri evening
CMH had U in both directions, so we’re talking 7 and 9 days out on almost-TCONs |
