CEO and Chairman of Schiphol Group, Dick Benschop, thinks it will take until 2023 - at the earliest - for Schiphol to get back to pre-Corona traffic numbers

Post Covid-19 social distance hysteria will make it very difficult for airlines to operate. People will stay scared. Only when a vaccin is found and available people hopefully will return to be the social creature we are. Without that we people will stay ackwardly distanced.

What about the fact that governments may allow people to go to work, travel, etc - but people don't do it because they are afraid? Some countries currently discuss giving employees a right to refuse to work but continue to be paid. When that happens the economy will not pick up not because of restrictions but because of fear. That wil lhave a direct impact on how of their previous capacities airlines will re-activate. . |
Today received a mail from Peter Elbers - CEO of KLM about the (near) future. Vague and underlining the uncertainties and the relative importance of the health issues compared to the business.
But the final paragraph - quickly translated by google was the following : I am convinced that this crisis can bring about a positive change in aviation. I see innovation in the area of sanitation and hygiene on board, but also in screening processes at airports and redefining personal space. We will soon consider these developments as the new standard. We work hard with our customers, authorities, airports and partners to create an improved KLM experience. KLM will emerge stronger from this crisis: goal-oriented, socially responsible and sustainable. |
He surely has the same ideas as those guys: https://www.thesun.co.uk/travel/1140...al-distancing/
Looking forward ! |

slightly OT: Ben Smith gives up bonus
Finally after lots of controversy surrounding his bonus, it will be scrapped for this year - which is the correct thing to do in the first place under current circumstances without any doubt. (same discussion although resolved quite quickly was the bonus of Pieter Elbers couple of days ago)
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-a...-idUSKCN2252AC Would have not helped if this was not resolved with current situation where they are not refunding monies to customer due to current cancellations.... Cheers! |

AF-KL to now get USD10.7 Billion from French and Netherland Governments in bailout. Last time I heard it was closer to $6 billion.

I also admire all the optimistic CEOs.
My two cents as armchair CEO in favour of the economy rather than health (also biased because of my age) is that we will never see again the world of travel like we knew it. And that us travelers have to get used to live with the SARS-CoV-2 like us with a sexual life had to get used to live with HIV almost 40 years ago, and still continue to do so. |

I didn't hear any controversy about B. Smith bonus. All the controversies I heard about were about P. Elbers bonus.
It makes no sense to pay out bonuses to top management of companies who are receiving financial support from governments imho... |
