I was not expecting it back to service. What was the point of removing AF livery ? Could it be that AF finally realized that it was needing the plane for more time than anticipated ?

I am delighted that the A220s will replace the A318 which are so uncomfortable. I hope that AF chooses different seats. A220 is 2x3 per row as opposed to 3x3, so great for couples.
Do we know when delivery will start?
The A220 is a former CS Bombardier plane, so quite different from the A320 series from a pilot viewpoint.
I assume that AF would need pilots to be qualified on both types of planes to ease flexible scheduling (like to NCE). Am I silly?

It’s not one plane that is more comfortable than the other. I believe those 2 are equivalent. The seat and config make it all. You could be as happy with the A318 without this horrible NEO seat but with the same nice leather seat as in Euro A319/320/321.

There is a 'brochure' linked in the first press release posted above, that shows pictures and dimensions, in case some of you manage to recognize the seats and compare dimensions:
A220-300 Brochure Air France
Sideways luggage storage, 3-2 seating with 47cm-wide seats, "up to" 149 seats.
Interestingly this document mentions 2300 nautical miles range (4250km), while the Airbus website says 3350 nautical miles (6204km).
Delivery starts in Sept 2021.

Yes and no. The A220 is a smarter design than the A318 just as the A350XWB is a smarter design than the 787. In my opinion.

September 2021 is not that far.
I doubt that the seats shown on the pictures are exactly those that AF will install some 2 years from now. Probably some generic seats.
The problem with A318 NEO seats is their awful shape that insure back problems. Hopefully AF will have learnt.
Apparently the A220 is a well liked plane with its 2x3 config, slightly wider seats, big windows and good locker room. The seat pitch will be what AF decides.
Indeed, the range of 2,300nm on the brochuer is a bit surprising. Airbus states a range of 2,900 to be increased to over 3,300 by the end of 2020. Maybe that is an AF typo for 3,300nm.

There must have been some operational surprise for sure. My guess is that it will be gone soon.
