I'm on the YZF end and they always offer priority boarding. When it's -50 with the windchill, you don't want to pre-board a CRJ when all they have is that little curtain to keep you warm! Always be aware flying AC here in winter that the CRJ is only certified to -40 core temperature. We've had many service disruptions on account of the a/c not being allowed to fly. The 5T/7F 732s while ancient are at least allowed to fly. Should be good for this year now, the latest cold snap just ended and hopefully summer is around the corner.

Does anyone actually ever want to get on a CRJ before they have to, I have to wonder about that person. Wait till the end, there should be no problem, all seats suck!!
|
For CRJ's i believe they do. But Dash 8 rarely. especially when I fly YVR-YYJ, pretty much never..
|
It is hit and miss in Ontario.
"Taranna"(YYZ);) will announce, occasionally, usually YXU for all the academics:p YQG,YSB almost never. YQT is pretty good about it but they have some CRA a/c where J is offered. Like another poster noted,I usually wait until last and look for a couple empty seats together. On another note ,how many pax are asked by FA when boarding if they would like to sit in row ____ because there is more space?Has happened a lot more lately, and IMO,is based on status in AE. |
Gate 34 at YVR is the Jazz gate with all the Dash 8s and some of the CRJ flights. Priority boarding is hit and miss.
Like another poster noted,I usually wait until last and look for a couple empty seats together. AP status means nothing on a Jazz flight in the West. Everyone gets equally good service. |

At YXU, they always allow pre-boarding for status pax, but you're right about YYZ -- much less consistent. |
I thought seats are assigned? I actually picked my seat when I booked the ticket!

This happens occasionally, but not often. It seems to depend on the particular FA rather than status. Sometimes I'll ask for row 2 and get turned down because it's the crew seat, even though it's very rarely used by an FA.

Also: In U.S. cities where Air Canada is serviced by United (counters, gates, baggage), they don't always know the AC statuses, and are very inconsistent. IND-YYZ is especially bad. I've heard "I invite all AC members to board" - what does that even mean? Yesterday I heard them invite all "United 1K, GSM members, plus our *A Gold and Silver partners". But this was AC metal ;) And again, everyone just got in line and boarded... I didn't see a lot of status tags on that flight, though I often do since it's a business route. |
I just did my YVR-YZF trip. Status boarding was enforced in YZF, but the gate agent also invited Prestige and *A Silver in the pre-broading announcement. And when she saw my elite card, she thought I was a super-elite.
