Aside from 2x Europe runs for about $2K, does anyone have other suggestions for the weekends of Dec 7-9 and/or Dec 28-31 for SE?
On Dec 8, I found a cheap one-way flight from YYZ-LAS for $189 ($260 with taxes) which will give you 3659 EQM. AC1163 YYZ-YVR AC554 YVR-LAX AC4890 LAX-LAS If you can find the same fare for the return, you could get 7318 EQM for $520. If your schedule is flexible, you might want to combine that with one of the cheap UA flights to Europe from LAS. It's called the Europe Everywhere Sale, and I see LAS to MUC for $230. |
I've always had success looking for United flights to qualify for E/SE ...
On a Thursday morning, I once bought YYZ-CMH-LAS-YYZ departing that evening, and returning on the red-eye the next morning on US Airways. And as an Elite, got an upgrade to business on the way back. You could do that a couple of times. I think from Canada, going on United is best for *A mileage runs (I did a YYC-SFO-IAD-MIA-SFO-YYC for 9000 miles and $500 ... The best part is that I took a bump on YYC-SFO, so I flew YYC-YYZ-MIA, and got the original routing!) However, if you can get to a US airport (BUF, SEA), the game changes. |

Only works in Canada and at a MLL. If you're traveling outside of Canada *A lounge access is pretty nice and cannot be purchased. The $25 doesn't get you priority check-in, priority screening (at some airports) or priority baggage (when it works) all of which have some value.
If you travel in busy periods you also have opportunities for op ups and I can usually talk my way into an E+ seat on United. However, again it all comes down to how much you fly and where. All of things aren't worth anything if you don't travel in 2008. OP would make PRESTIGE/STARSilver so AC priority check-in is possible. Some STAR carriers also offer this benefit to their STARSilvers. Ps can select MLL passes as one of their benefits, so if access cannot be bought for international flights, these can be used within Canada (but MLL membership is also an option for half the MR fare, and it does include RCCs and LH lounges when flying AC or those two carriers). Priority bags is a toss-up on many AC flights. Better investment of $900-$1000 would be a YUL/YYZ-PVG return and a few other MR trips early in 2008 to earn ELITE midway through next year for both 2008/9 and 2009/10, earning two years instead of just one. |
Another benefit of AC Elite - one can check in 4 pieces of luggage, without extra charge. If you have lots of Aeroplan miles - you can use 2x miles (needed for a classic award) to get "instant KK" in economy class.
