You Complete the Script

Act I, Scene I

Scene I: It is 3 AM. Our intrepid hero, who lives in Prescott, Ontario, about 45 mins. southwest of YOW on the 401, is packed and ready to go on his long-awaited trip to PVR. His daughter is to be married in PVR at 6 PM local time and he is very anxious about the trip. He looks to the west toward YYZ and sees nothing but clear skies. Alas, he looks to the northeast and sees nothing but driving freezing rain. According to the Environment Canada website, YOW is supposed to be socked in until at least noon.

Our intrepid hero lookes down at his pre-printed boarding passes:

YOW-YYZ Dep 9 AM, Arr: 10:10 AM
YYZ-PVR Dep 11:30 AM, Arr: 3:30 PM

Our intrepid hero bought the lowest price fare. Unchangeable, non-refundable.

Our intrepid hero checks the AC website. Both legs of his flights are currently showing on time.

Intrepid Hero: "Uh Oh. There is a big risk I could miss my connection to PVR. I have an idea!"

Intrepid Hero: (dials AC reservation number)

AC Reservation Agent: "Air Canada. How can I help you?"

Intrepid Hero: "Hi. My reservation number is X6H8PM. There is an awful freezing rain storm in YOW and I would not like to take the chance that I will miss my connection in YYZ to PVR. My daughter is getting married tonight. I would have no problem driving to YYZ right now to meet the connecting flight. Can I do that and can we just forget about the YOW-YYZ leg?"

AC Reservations Agent: (you complete the script)

Script Notes: This is fictional account of a possible real-life situation in say, 20 years, when my DD is old enough to fly as other than an UM. It will be 10 years before we can eat at a restaurant that doesn't have pictures of the food on the meu, However, it arose out of a real-life conversation at the office this week, minus the drama about the wedding.

AC Reservations Agent - "Can your daughter postpone her wedding?"

CarNut Feb 4, 2007 10:33 am

"I'm sorry Sir. Perhaps you should have arranged to travel a day or two prior to a monumentous event in your life and in your daughters' life, or perhaps you should have only booked the YYZ-PVR flight, and arranged to be in Toronto the day before to ensure that you made the PVR flight."

Can I help with Scene 2...

YYZ-PVR is delayed and arrives in PVR at 1827.
(Assuming of course our hero is travelling today.)

Hope you make it. Good luck!

I don't see why this would be a problem. I had to join a YUL-YYZ-HNL trip once in YYZ as I had a last-minute morning meeting in ROC. I called and informed them I would not be flying the first leg. They said it was fine, although I do admit having a bit of trepidation arriving at YYZ and anticipating them telling me they've canceled everything. ;)

Are you nuts? Why would you book a flight the DAY OF the wedding and take a chance like that? That's just deliberately courting disaster.

In Laws?

Cargoagent Feb 4, 2007 11:27 am

Un(expletive deleted) believable. Do you not approve of the wedding or what???????? Assuming everything went according to plan, you would travel thousands of miles and would only arrive 2 1/2 hours before the wedding.

I can hardly wait to see how the usual suspects blame this one on AC.

"No problem sir, glad that you phoned to let us know you couldn't make the first leg of your trip. Normally we would have cancelled your entire itinerary. There will be a $53 charge for the change though . . . :D "

To be fair, the $3 are GST though. :D

(But I suspect you are right. And yes, the guy would be nuts to plan to arrive a few hours before the wedding.)

"is this your only daughter"
"yes"
"maybe you should speak to your wife about getting another one......"

or

"is this your only daughter"
"no"
"good, then I would like to suggest you to purchase our 'flexible business class option for $10000'....."

Sanosuke Feb 4, 2007 2:40 pm

"I'm sorry to hear that, but that woman's just too much for you to wed-off. Now pass on that credit card information and we'll rebook you. You shouldn't have gambled on going at the last minute."

Sanosuke!
