Overhead bin storage on E90
 

I'm travelling PDX-DEN-YUL this Sunday to give a poster presentation at a conference in beautiful Montreal. The poster is rolled up inside one of those plastic carrying tubes for protection, don't have it in front of me for measurement but I'd say it's probably ~ 45". Obviously, I don't want to check it as losing it would negate my whole reason for going! I'm in upgraded F from PDX-DEN on a UA 757 so I think they'll be able to accommodate it in the closet or someplace, but my question pertains to the DEN-YUL leg operated by AC on the E190 (first AC flight too, btw! ^ ):

Will I be able to store my tube in the E90 overhead bins, or can the FA store it in a closet onboard? I'd really rather not even gate check the thing, if that's what they'll do in DEN. I'm assuming E90's use a jet bridge in DEN?

Just got off an E75 this afternoon - should go in the overhead providing you put it in after everyone else has put their stuff to avoid getting squashed.

Closet at the front would prolly work best. Either way, I think it's a pretty safe bet.

The e90 is the best way you can get introduced to AC. Enjoy.

Size of Storage Bin in E90
 

What is the size of the storage bin for E90 and E75? Can a 20-inch carry on fit in there? The size of my luggage is: 20" x 13.75" x 8.5" (HxWxD). I wonder if I need to gate-check this.

The overhead bins on an E90 are smaller than the A320 ones, however a poster tube shouldn't be an issue.

Just got off an E90 with the standard size 20" rollaboard carry on. It fit in the bin no problem.

It will fit, if there is space. Overhead space for roll-ons goes quickly, especially on commuter flights. You don't mention the route - on transborder flights at least I don't believe gate check is an option

I will be on a weekend early morning flight LAX-YVR. And I am Continental Gold Elite. Do I board in the first or second group? Hopefully the space will not run out by the time I board. What is that chance?

You will board in the first group. AC does not separate its premium cabin and top tier elites from Star Gold during priority boarding (a la United). I'm sure you'll find space for it in the overhead compartment, although you might have to put it in with the longest side first (as opposed to wheels in first).

The E90s have a 1-2 config up front. If you're in the first single seat (1A) then the bin above will not have space. It's one of those half-length bins that are usually stuffed with pillows, the emergency megaphone and stuff like that. The other bins for the other seats will be fine though.

Flew two E90s over the weekend and was in J both times. However, found the seat back holders in very bad shape, with 2F on one plane ripped and hanging loose (even the velcro didn't hold it in place), and 3F on the other in similar shape. Also, most of the tray tables formed Vs on the fold line and were useless to rest anything on, including the snack tray! Had to place a pillow on my lap to keep the table in place...

And of course, too many people boarded with roll-on bags that didn't fit either side of the overhead bins. Most ended up checked (free of charge, of course). When will AC and the other carriers wisen up to this waste of time? Bags over 19" should not be permitted on these planes and should be caught at check-in when AC can collect an appropriate payment. The current practice only encourages this deceptive practice and adds to the work of gate and in flight crews to deal with.

I flew transborder with a domestic connection last month en route to give a conference poster presentation. It was in a 36" heavy duty cardboard poster tube that went into checked luggage, tagged * Alliance priority. Came through on all segments no problem and no damage at all.

Of course, there is some risk but one segment was on a Dash 8 which most certainly would not have had any space to accommodate this thing in the pax cabin.

I read somewhere (I think RSSed from The Gate) that the dAArk side is beginning to enforce carry-on size limits (with an up-to $20k fine). Hope this will start spreading to the other major carriers
