Now that we all got our e-mails today, can we assume that early status qualification is now closed?

I would actually qualify for SE with the segments I took today and I was still hoping I might get it!!!

PreferBulkhead Nov 15, 2007 8:34 pm

You never know ... cross those fingers :D and pass the rim salt! :D

Early Elite - did I mess up?

I managed to achieve early Elite (for the first time) in October. There is little chance of me qualifying for SE. Did I make a mistake by selecting 2500 Q miles as a choice - will I lose these at the end of this year or will they apply for next year? Do you suppose the good folks at AP would reverse my selection? Perhaps I should have selected 50% non-Q miles?

Finally, am I stuck with this selection for next year?

Thanks!

Academic Nov 16, 2007 6:37 am

The extra Q miles will take you closer to the next threshold bonus for this year but will not carry over into next, so they may not be all that useful. But you will get a new package and set of choices for next year.

Prestige Nov 16, 2007 6:40 am

You will not lose them but they won’t apply for next years qualification period (for status in 2009-2010). Status miles are reset to zero on Jan 1.

ommoran Nov 16, 2007 8:41 am

Give me a 'P', a lowly 'P'

I received my e-mail that I got my Prestige status (first time) on segments. Now I am trying to figure out what to choose.

Any suggestions? I won't get to pick until January so I am certain to choose the Q miles, but I don't know what else to select.

Hard to say until you see the offerings ... no guarantee they will be the same as last year.

Given a choice I would choose Door #3 ;)

Thanks Academic.:-: As a newbie, I wasn't aware that there were thresholds for E but I did see that there were for SE. I'm just North of 40k right now after the 2,500 Q were added. If I'm lucky I'll probably muster another 5k by the end of the year. Am I up for something? If not, do you suppose AP would consider a change or am I locked in?

CPwingwalker Nov 16, 2007 9:55 am

Won't cross SE threshold til 31 Dec flight

Have been posted the odd miles from SQ here and there all year and will cross 100K with a ZRH-SIN flight (SQ in F). Posting is usually a week later with SQ to AC these days. Should I call Aeroplan and alert them? I received the Elite email notice today as well. My points will definitely not be posted by 31 Dec but my flights will have been taken.

The Q miles do not apply retroactively - only to the miles after you crossed 35K, so it will likely be a wash for you if you've got 5K more travel in 2007.

No - you'll get to choose all over again in December for next year.

Don't bother calling to alert them. This just means you won't be part of the "early birds" group who will make their selections in December and usually get their new packages in January. They do another sweep in mid-January to catch people in your situation.

Of course if your miles don't post within a week of travel, get on the phone!

Well, on the AP site, it now says my benefits package has been mailed out on November 16. So I should get it sometime this week - so November qualifiers should also receive their packages (hopefully!)

One funny thing, one Nov 16, I got an email from Aeroplan welcoming me to 2008 Prestige Status, even though I'm now qualified for Elite. Maybe I'll get both Prestige AND Elite tags and packages!

Tolerance levels for 2008 Qualifications

Any idea how close to a given level (35K, 100K) we need to get to be granted that status? For instance should I expect to be granted SE status if I stop at 98,000 Q Miles?

This is a FAQ.

The answer is no, do not expect any leeway. Plan to get to 100k one way or another.

That being said, there has been leeway granted in the past and it could happen again this year. So if no more travel is even possible for you, you could very well get SE anyway.

But you shouldn't expect it.

Until when is the Elite Card valid for ?

Hi All,

I have Elite status and already qualified for Elite for next year.

Was just wondering - is my current Elite card valid until end of year (2007) or will it be valid until Feb 08 by which i will hopefully get a new Elte card ?

Thanks,

JJ

uselessheadrest Nov 20, 2007 9:22 pm

Look on the card

The expiration date on mine is February 29, 2008.

Opened the mail today and to my surprise was the nice gold envelope with my luggage tags and upgrade certs! It didn't even take 2 weeks for me. Said it was mailed out Nov 16th and arrived Nov. 23rd. Not too bad! I thought it was going to take much longer!

threeputt Nov 25, 2007 9:38 am

I will cross the 100K mark on my flight tonight. Does anyone know if they are still doing this as indicated in the first page of this thread??

Early Status "Lite"

In past experience if you cross the status mile threshold after the early recognition deadline, you will not receive the full early status benefits (like card and upgrade certs), but you will be recognized with your new status on the Aeroplan website, on your boarding passes (see above), and in dealings with AP/AC on the phone and via the website. You might very well get into AC lounges with your boarding pass and a printout from the website, but not necessarily. And you are quite unlikely to get Star Alliance Gold benefits without your Elite card in hand.

margarita girl Nov 25, 2007 11:10 am

I crossed SE threshold on Nov 15, all flights posted by Nov 18, and I haven't seen anything acknowledging early qualification, so I think we missed it.

Only big difference I can see by not getting it early though is the bonus miles on AC flights (100% instead of 50%). I have no plans to redeem Aeroplan miles at this moment, so IKK benefit not an issue. As E, you already get access to the MLL.

:( I think they advertised Oct 15th but internally held to Nov 15th posting date which is too bad. Congratulations for getting it the hard way! (segments right?)

The other main surprise for me was the extra 5,000 mile bonus which motivated me a bit to get to 150k since I was at around 140k by Dec 31 already :) I think they will give you the status January 1 effectively if this year was any indication! I wonder if your AP web site when logged in will update to say Super Elite?

In the past when I moved from "E" to "SE" late in the year and did not make the cutoff date, I did find that Jan 01 the website should my SE status and I was able to take advantage of SE benefits even though technically I was not SE for another 2 months.

Early Status "Lite"

In past experience...

Since I now carry the same status from year to year, I have no way of verifying if some of the unpublished benefits carry over from year to year.

It depends on people noticing that they are recognized as being E or SE (or P) on websites and boarding passes and reporting that fact here, ideally in this thread. So, keep checking to see if you are recognized on the AP website, and let us know here how it turns out.

Early qualification

I called Aeroplan this morning to plead my case. They suggested I send an e-mail to [email protected].

I did and and got this automated response back:

This is an automated response. Your e-mail has been successfully received.

Thank you for your e-mail regarding your 2008 Air Canada membership status. Kindly note, we will begin reviewing accounts for status upgrades in January; therefore, you may expect to receive a reply to your request sometime prior to March 1st.
Great, just great.

Sent an e-mail enquiring about this but was told I have to wait until March 1 next year.:td:

It is likely that benefit selection emails will start going out within the next two weeks to those who have crossed the requisite status thresholds by the end of this month. And once choices are made, kits start arriving shortly after the holidays. So while you may miss SE benefits during December, you're quite likely to have your new SE card by mid-January and your new status will appear January 1st when the 2007 numbers vanish.

margarita girl Nov 29, 2007 3:23 pm

However, I assume bonus miles won't start until March 1? For instance, right now I'm getting 50% bonus with Elite. I plan to chose 100% bonus with SE. Any chance it might start earlier?

I would be happy with if that was approach they take.

Bonus miles follow the calendar year so you will get the 100% for Jan - Dec.

Yes - I recall now for 2007 that after the status year started AE went back and corrected my account to ensure I had the bonus miles for flights taken in Jan and Feb 2007.

However not sure if the 100% bonus will satisfy her appetite for miles!! ;) :D

Shortly after your miles post you should see your status change on the AE web site from E to SE. when that happens, call AC reservations and have them remove and then re-input your AE number. Presto you will then appear on the manifest as SE. That could be very helpful if you are trying to upgrade to/from Asia.

Thanks for the tip....As it is I am waitlisted on the return from HKG-YYZ for upgrade. I was hoping with having SE status I'll recieve higher priorty to get a seat upfront!^

He will get an email mid December requesting him to choose his 2008 options. In mid January or early Feb he will have the "E" status for 2008 expiry Feb.22,09. The package will come in the mail shortly after
For SE aeroplan usally does a monthly sweep that sometimes provides E-SE instantly on the web.

did you receive this?

I crossed SE on Nov. 22 - jut curious if anyone else has received this "quasi-early" recognition. Maybe the sweep will be today as its the first business day after Dec. 1?

why do I let myself get my hopes up?

Don't! I crossed on Nov 15th, and got NADA so far.

I guess he'll just have to be patient. Thanks for the replies.

I am officially SE per website!

I wasn't this morning, but I am this afternoon!

I was sure I wasn't going to get it until January since I crossed the threshold on Nov 15th.

AWESOME! So what's the secret handshake? ;)
