MLL access

I have paid MLL access and since I normally fly out of YUL the age of majority issue isn't present but i'm 18 and flying between YOW and YVR... will the MLL desk staff let me into the lounge? (yes, I started FT early, I fly a lot)I've been into the YOW one in the morning where they haven't checked for ID when flying exec but my paid MLL access asked for my birthdate so i'm assuming its on file and they will be enforcing it.

If they won't let me in on my own is there any other way to get in besides waiting outside the lounge for a status or exec passenger and asking them to be my "supervisory adult" because thats something i'd really prefer not to do?
Thanks

Well techinically they should enforce it if their website is correct:

http://www.aircanada.com/en/travelin...ges/index.html

"Age of Majority:

Please note that legal drinking age requirements are strictly enforced. Visitors under the age of majority will be granted access to the lounge only when accompanied by an adult with his/her own access. Adults who bring children into the lounge are kindly asked to supervise them."

Now the question is, is the age of 18 the age of majority in Ontario .. per this government website 18 is ... so you "should" be OK?

http://canada.justice.gc.ca/en/ps/sup/steps/s2c.html

Edited to add as per later posts that majority for drinking in Ontario is the age of 19 ... it has been sooo long :D

the age of majority in both BC and Ontario in terms of alcohol is 19... is asking random status passengers outside the lounge the way to go then?

That is a possibility.
In addition, some brave FTers post their flight info here so that another FTer may be able to help them as well...

If all else fails, have a friend come with you - preferably with another CC-MLL card or even a E/SE/*G card or even check on FT before flying and ask who will be in the same lounge at that time - and tell the MLL people that 'this over 19y.o. person will supervise me'. :D :D

Then go your separate ways inside. Not that they can follow our every move with many people in the lounge at the same time.

And not that you want to do this either, but it is one way of doing it.

Edited: just noticed that this is similar info to nomad's info above

From:
http://www.agco.on.ca/en/t.tools/t3....ohol.faqs.html

4. What is the legal drinking age in Ontario?
The legal age to drink alcohol is 19 years old.

5. What is the legal age for serving alcohol?
The legal age to serve alcohol in a licensed establishment is 18 years old. "Serving alcohol" includes taking drink orders, taking payment for beverage alcohols, stocking the refrigerator or bar area, and bartending.

Providing you serve MLL patrons and don't serve yourself, seems you should be welcome! Curious eh!

It would seem that if AC issued you a MLL card, knowing both your age and the age of majority at most of their lounges, the issue may be mute as far as they're concerned. It appears you've never been "carded" [i.e. birth certificate/driver's license] before, so I should not think this will become an issue unless you look very young, or the name on the MLL card does not match the name on your boarding pass.

I have been refused entry before in Vancouver on an exec ticket until I did find a friend who was on the same flight, over 19, and I paid for her as a guest but it doesn't look like I will be flying on the same day as anyone I know... maybe I should bring my resume and ask for a bartender interview :D

I wish I could have bought an exec ticket when I was under 18 :(
Let alone have paid MLL access at that age.

In the event that you are hassled, tell them you are meeting your father/mother/business colleague/etc in the lounge- that should probably do the trick.

Unless you look really young, I doubt you will have a problem. Just walk tall and be confident, most of the time they are just pretending to check your boarding pass and card, they aren't doing a detailed look at it. Be persistent, if they say no, tell them you just want to get a coffee and check your email, not drink. :p

As others have suggested, post your travel dates here, someone is sure to be able to help, they don't even need to be on the same flight. ^

Good for you if you've discovered the joys of airport lounges and business class travel at a young age, enjoy.

I've never been asked for ID, I've been in the MLL's underage before. Even now, I'm only 20 and I always get ID'd in the liquor stores in Quebec and BC.
